As there are not too many console launches and switch seems to be the most successful of this generation. I think this deserves it´s own thread as many elektronauts seem to like games. Xbox lost me, Ps5 is ok but Switch got me and I am really hyped.
Seems Nintendo will announce it in the next days. Almost everything has been leaked to this point. Biggest plus is backwards compatibillity.
Launch Game seems to be Mario Kart 9. Anyone hyped. Who´s getting one?
I nearly bought a switch the other day - my daughter is starting to get into games and absolutely loves Mario kart so I think I’ll be very likely to grab one at launch
I’ve had a Mk1 for several years, it’s a nice console and some of the exclusive games (particularly Breath of the Wild) have been amazing. I don’t get a ton of use out of it lately, but for the price I’d say it’s paid for itself a couple times over. Don’t know anything about Switch 2 but I’m guessing I’ll end up getting one some day, I’ve been playing Nintendo games for 30+ years.
Can’t help thinking they should’ve held back Tears of the Kingdom for the new console…. Not sure there will be enough to lure me in any time soon. Surely a new 3d Mario (Odyssey 2?) on the way….its been ages. Elden Ring would be nice.
Edit: Oh there’s been talk of a Breath of the Wild remaster or whatever. That might swing it if it happens… Any excuse for another run through that masterpiece
I’m intrigued to see what they do with it and what the features turn out to be. It will surely have more recent last gen 3rd party titles, but just like with the OG, I will likely have already played the ones I’m interested in.
It’s going to be an interesting launch for Nintendo, the market they created 8 years ago now looks quite crowded, so they’re going to need a point of difference.
I think it will sell well and for parents and kids it will always be a first option. But I think Nintendo will lag this generation as other handhelds have arrived with more power.
Genuinely curious to see what titles launch with the Switch 2, but I moved to PC for gaming a while back, so unless there’s some real standouts not sure if I’d pick one up.
I did try a Steam Deck for a bit there but ended up just selling it, preferring larger and more high quality displays in the lounge or at the desk.
A switch is a present that my daughter got a few years back and is a gift that keeps on giving. We’ve got so much use out of it.
I’m definitely interested in a switch 2, but I’m not actually sure what we need extra in it. Nintendo is always behind a PS or XBOX on the graphics, but that’s not what the Wii or Switch has ever been about.
id guess a few obvious things for switch 2
The Main thing - better copy protection to avoid roms getting dumped and better security features to impact pc emulation .
the less important things…
runs at better framerate at higher resolutions.
a generational leap on gfx, basic raytracing etc… the type of things on ps3 / ps4 and xbox…
itll generally be easier to port ps3/ps4/xbox/modern ios / steam deck equivalent games to switch, developing a switch only game isnt viable anymore unless you are nintendo.
more memory / gfx memory / quicker memory access.
same sound.
better battery that in reality isnt much better as the screen/gpu/cpu need more power to run.
basically same controllers , probably less prone to drift and issues.
same terrible slow online store.
same subscription model with possibly more powerful generation of emulation to run more old nintendo games.
backwards compatible.
different size device to ensure everyone can make a bit of cash from buying more skins / screen protectors … if it was the same size then theres less $$$ in it for 3rd parties.
yet another set of re-released games with slightly enhanced visuals (bigger draw distances, less LOD issues, a few extra polygons… but exactly same actual game experience)… basically the same but they’ll fool people into buying it again.
more silly colour / sticker variations for those ‘exclusive’ tie ins that are basically worthless .
summary - better copy protection but otherwise just a bit of an improvement. another version released 2 years later with improved screen, battery
Only mildly hyped - like, I’ve not read any leaks and don’t really care I will v.likely get one, but not at launch. I’m currently unemployed so I can’t justify frivolous purchases. Our kid’s Switch I is still awesome. Also, I’m a sucker for special edition stuff, so waiting for a big release would be prudent (I’m hoping for a new BoTW/ToTK style Zelda game).
I’ve just started playing Metroid Prime remastered. Seeing what magic Retro is still able to pull out of the og Switch makes me pretty hype about Beyond on Switch 2.
Not super hyped about Switch 2. I just want The Wind Waker released for the Switch. If it is released for Switch 2 I will get one, otherwise I will wait.
I buy Nintendo consoles for the big Nintendo releases. They’re inevitable and we know they will be good but I can’t say I’m really hyped yet because there’s almost nothing specific to be hyped about. My favorite franchise of all time is Metroid so I’m excited for Metroid Prime 4, but there’s literally nothing else to be excited about currently regarding Switch 2.
It’ll probably basically be unobtainable for like a year after release anyway.
