My morph knob has suddenly begun clacking and grinding noisily on start, and having resistance when the unit is off.
I sent the unit off once for a noise knob issue… and now this. I sent them an email and video and I’m about to ask for a whole different unit because this (coupled with a faulty power supply originally sent to me) is getting absurd.
As an owner of both a nina and rotocontrol, I have a question. I was speaking to one of your support people and I’ve shipped my Nina in twice for issues now, and originally had a faulty power supply sent to me.
I had noise knob desyncing which was not fixed when I sent my Nina in the first time, and now I’m forced to send it back because the morph knob grinds and clicks like crazy on startup and has resistance where it shouldn’t.
I asked the support person if I could exchange my unit for another and he told me no, and as I packed it up today I found little scratches on the faceplate from the last tech.
Am I being unreasonable to want to exchange mine?
In case anyone is interested in getting a Nina (or Delia or Roto) but is afraid that the knobs might break at some point: they just sent out a mail to newsletter subscribers that their warranty is now 10 years. Everyone who buys new now gets this automatically if I got it right, those who already own a Melbourne device can register and get the updated warranty.
Not that anything has ever broken, äbut it’s good to know nonetheless and could maybe swing some potential buyers who are on the fence.
That would definitely help. I feel like I’ve heard 2-3 stories of people having issues with their Melbourne instruments. Which out of the thousands that probably have been made is next to nothing - but it’s also more than zero.
I’ve been following this thread because with my big bonus at the end of year I’m considering either picking this up or an Echofix EFX-3. So either way I’m in for something with moving parts and increased maintenance requirements. If I go for the Echofix it won’t be because I didn’t trust Melbourne, it’s just that I already have 3 poly-synths that I love (Moog One, UDO S6, and Expressive E Osmose) and don’t have time to play any one of them enough as it is. So spreading that limited time across another synth doesn’t feel like the right move for me just now. I’d rather have something that expands the pallette of all the other things I already know and love.
But hey, you never know what tariffs and distribution are going to look like in 4 months, so who knows. And there’s something to be said for getting somewhere and demoing this (or both of these), seeing if it changes my mind.
