NI Maschine: moddable as a standalone MIDI Controller?

hi there,

just discovered that the Maschine controller (mk1)i bought some years ago is not usable without a computer (guess i’m the last person on earth to notice that…). really stupid, as i like the layout of the controlls and the pads. so, does anyone here know if it’s possible to mod this thing to make it usable as a standart MIDI controller without having to wire it to a computer?

ive not tried this yet but it has a midi mode. its shift plus some other key. if you connect it to a powered usb hub it could work….

no – unfortunately, this is not working

Better off selling it and buying a MPC500 / MPC1000; or grab on of the MPD’s or something?

yes, i will sell it if there’s no way to use it in MIDI mode without a computer.

Maschine Pads are way superior to any MPDs Pads. I love my MPD 32 i did a lot of stuff with it and its the only Midi Controller i kept after going hardware only. But you have to tune the pads. You can buy a kit or there are some DIY videos on youtube.

So try modding the Maschine or get an MPC 1000

Ah that’s a shame about the needing a PC thing. I never use the MAschine software but thought I couldve done something with a powered hub. Might just sell the controller only keeping the software due to my Komplete crossgrade. Might only get £75 or something but stuff it.

i don’t get it why they made this restriction. i’m no crack on this, but i don’t understand how the controller detects wether it is being plugged into a computer usb port or powered via usb charger.

i tried an apple iPhone usb charger (http://thumbs2.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/m7MvUsu3tTHww3ZFK2Kz4-w.jpg) with a standart USB cable, but it only made the pads & buttons light up once on startup then became dead.

Well its their philosophy. NI is one of those companies that likes to keep its users hugged closely to its chest. NI provides you with everything you need so how dare you to even think about using their product without their software?
