#NGNY22 - Happy NoGear New Year!

Be careful, he looks like the Devil (snake) in disguise.

Checking reviews and videos. Wondering how I would break the news in this thread…

Thank you! I’m not even sure I like the sound, there’s just something about their products, I really like. But I’m good now. Appreciate the help :+1:

Same. (The Bam is my favourite reverb.)

For me Boum was very much a luxury item (most hardware is, I guess), the sort of piece I was using maybe 10% of the time and when I was it was maybe making my sound marginally better. Although I haven’t cut corners when it comes to sound sources I’ve tried to be mindful of other outboard gear cos that’s the real money pit!

Yes - that is absolutely true. One could go overboard there. I knew, when I first got BAM, that BIM was in my future, and I’m really happy with both. I know it’s a controversial approach, but I love the interface. Super intuitive.

BOUM never had the same appeal, so this is just gas rearing its ugly head now, telling me they’ll look great together.

Sorry if this is Oto gas inducing, but I’m a firm beliver in being able to talk about everything, and not go :hear_no_evil: to get through this.

Sorry @Joebas, you can’t break. You started the f$&king thread.

I wanted an Oto Boum to use with my Op-1, but got the AH instead. Trying to use stuff that’s perhaps a bit more versatile, especially when trying to keep things to a minimum.

I’d really like to be able to compare them though.

The Oto BOUM will be there for you in 2023 if you really want it. I say this as a Oto fan like you. Wait it out.

In the meantime, what do you have already that you can (mis)use to create interesting distortion/saturation? I found a cheap tape recorder laying around recently that sounds great on drums. You already have a BAM - have you tried using the input gain and super short reverbs to create distortion? Just coming up with some ideas.

so far this NGNY 2022 I’ve sold…

  • Digitakt
  • Jak Plugg - Monsoon
  • Mutable Instruments - Clouds
  • Doepfer - WASP SE 1
  • Doepfer - WASP SE 2
  • Native Instruments - Kontrol S25
  • Neutron Sound - Orgone Accumulator
  • Make Noise - QPAS

the compliment gets smaller! going in the right direction.

Guilty! And a second later: “Ehm, you own the bloody thing, what are you thinking?!” :slightly_smiling_face:

It still feels a bit like cheating though, what if I wouldn’t own it already, would I be craving for one?..

:joy: You are absolutely right. There will be no breaking here!

Only because I had sold mine. :poop:

I have this great old BOSS mixer, that distorts in a quite nice way, that I’ll just use instead :+1: Thanks for the support. This is great place

Although a mistake-to-redemption ark from our leader could be extremely inspiring and humanizing!

Oh, I’ve done that ark back and forth several times, in my own, earlier attempts at this, believe me…

Had some “difficult” moments the last 24hours.

Yesterday, I almost put up my Akai Force for sale that i got end of December after getting frustrated by something i couldn’t figure out.

Then today, I almost bought a Komplete upgrade and just now I added a micromonsta2 to my shopping cart after receiving a back in stock notification.

Not sure where this sudden GAS behavior is coming from. It’s such a strange addiction!

Luckily, I didn’t break though. Still in…

Well done! I had a day like that yesterday. Today is fine. Weird stuff?

Congrats everybody, on taking back control of your mind! Even if you slip up, don’t worry about it. Just pick yourself up and continue.

This is the most important thing to remember I think! Only requirement for membership is the desire to stop GAS…
Luckily I see lots of changing behaviour in this thread, people pausing and thinking before acting rashly, or distracting themselves somehow. This should serve us well in the future in making more reasoned decisions about buying gear.

NGNY Update: a marginal sin, but a sin indeed.
I bought a rack case for my Octa/Rytm/Heat.
That being said, ive been heavily focused on those three, putting in any spare time i have.
Ive also been taking some dynamite lessons from our very own @DaveMech who has been helping me with techniques to turn my series of loops and patterns into more polished song performances. Its quite shocking how much better this shit sounds with his input!
I’m hoping to have a solid set together in the next couple months or so! Super stoked!
