clock divider/multiplier and polymode and im set
Yes! Something to fix the low end while filtering would be awesome.
I do like the sound but unlike you I’m usually using Filter 2 to add gain at the cutoff frequency rather than eliminate frequencies on the other side. This is partly because I need to replace my mixer
but also because I’ve gotten quite used to the very flexible filter of the OT. The extent of the fain reduction on filter 1 just doesn’t feel right to me.
Indeed, but it is confusing to operate with no visual feedback about the actual setting (unless one has a computer of some kind next to it displaying the NRPN output values as you described above). Since picking up a Tempest I have to say taht I think Elektron needs to upgrade the display resolution a bit, the pixelated knbo displays on the A4 are as cute as ever but not terribly informative.
I have to agree with seenfromspace that a logarithmic taper would be better than a linear taper in this case - it’s all very well having +/- 8192 steps of resolution but it seems like you only get to use perhaps 2048 of those before you’re into severe clipping of the LFO modulation, with the destination parameter pinned at min/max value for most of the cycle, such that you might often just as well use a square wave. I would definitely sacrifice some of the vast modulation range in return for logarithmic behavior that made it easier to explore.
I haven’t measured this rigorously and I suppose I should sit down and do so, but in practice this translates to twiddling a knob in search of a sweet spot because it isn’t possible to quickly dial in the value you actually want, like ‘66% of maximum sweep’. Of course, the best way around this is by mapping the performance mode controls to a narrow range of values and then tweaking with abandon, but that’s a ‘housekeeping’ job I’d rather not do every time I load/create a new sound and have not made decisions about which parameters will be important.
If there’s a consensus that having greater visibility of the fine values is a desired feature then I encourage (beg) you all to ask Elektron nicely through support (or wherever is appropriate) for that. Sure, you don’t get this feature on a purely analogue synth, but this one has analogue soul and a digital mind ; - ] let’s make it happen.
Wrt the way the available resolution is handled, I cannot as yet comment too much, not explored the usefulness of the full range yet. It offers me enough subtlety at the zero end to add a sprinkle of something. With regards to the correlation I wonder if it’s unavoidably tied to being compatible with semitones, ie depth of 12 gives you an octave on a pitch modulation, 24 is 2oct and so on. From that the resolution is mapped out.
I really wish they’d offered fine control of the delay time !

Yes, fine tune of at least the delay time would be great.
Also fixing some of the inputting issues, legato, arp trigs, slides.
Some sort of help with track unisons or poly would be nice but not crucial to me.
What is crucial to me is the ability to clear a tracks trigs with one button. It’s hard to enter melodies in a live situation cuz if you make an error, you have to have the sequencer run through the entire pattern to clear it currently. It should just be ‘clear track trigs’ - done.

[FUNCTION] + [REC] -> grid record mode.
then [FUNCTION] + [PLAY] -> clear track.
you really should have left the labelling on your stealth A4 ; - ]
it’s just [rec] to enter grid mode if you’re not there, but we know you knew that !

Thanks void, I’ll try that tonight. Kinda always thought there should be a way of doing that. So this will instantly clear the trigs of the currently selected track? Sure beats live rec and hold track + no.

sure does, though it’s just [REC] for entering grid mode as avantronica pointed out.
you can also copy/paste the track, respectively…
and you can (in grid rec mode) hold the page button (lowest rightmost button on the machine) and copy/clear/paste single pages in your patterns…
Would it be possible to use the headphone as a stereo output ?
by the way, we could have four outputs (1 for each synth track).
This could my first wish if possible.
Then :
- independent step length for each track
- a poly mode
- LFO’s parameter in Env’s & LFO destinations
-
- drive including sample sound source to expend the A4 to wavetable synthesis (transwave or waldorf running wave way of playing)
- global save mode (one action for saving kit + track + pattern + sound)
- midi output tracks (love so much this seq. I want it to be the heart of my midi set)
- coffee ??
Not sure if already mentioned in this post, but could be great to stabilize the Temp In from USB.
Is not stable on my setup when the A4 is in slave and USB is used for tempo IN. e.g. screens shows a changing BPM 118-121, while in my DAW (Logic or Live) it is set at 122. And it works well when using MIDI IN instead of USB in.

I don’t know about logic but isn’t live notoriously bad at sending stable midi clock?
Did I just read that there is no level for sub OSC. So its either on or off?
I don’t even own an A4 I’m just following what people feel its missing. I would buy one but no Pony Filter so its a no no.
for a 1-osc + sub sound it’s simple to use the sub of the second (or the second osc itself) - so you get variable level and/or tuning
forget what it says on paper - the A4 is incredibly versatile and can only be understood by getting your hands dirty
so what’s a pony filter ! mr google doesn’t know ?

this would refer to a previous statement by, I believe, Mr. Anigbrowl who said something along the lines that he wants a PONY(-filter) FOR XMAS!!!
a pony which also makes coffee??? a machine that makes music!?!? wtf
yep - i suspected i wasn’t in on the gag
Shocked, not outraged, but shocked. I don’t think I have ever played a synth that doesn’t let you control the sub oscilator level. I wonder why that is? Very curious. Not saying its bad just curious.
