New user - midi help

Hi

Recently picked up an Octatrack and Korg EX800 sound module. I have no experience with midi and finding things tricky when connecting these up with a midi keyboard. Can someone please tell me the external cable routing so i can play the korg ex800 via the midi keyboard but also take advantage of Octatracks midi features (like lfo, appeg etc). What settings do i need to set up in Octa for this to work correctly? Eternally grateful for any help.

keyboard midi out -> octatrack midi in
octatrack midi out -> Korg module

set the midi keyboard, Korg, and OT all to the same MIDI channel (pick any MIDI track in OT, double-tap Playback, set channel). that should do it, but there may be other fiddly settings i’m forgetting.

also pg 140 of the OT manual, but that’s a slightly different setup

Cable routing should be like this:

Midi keyboard (Out) --> (In) Octatrack (Out) --> (In) Korg EX800

If I remember right, you have to:

  1. set your midi keyboard to send data to auto midi channel (check in midi settings of OT)
  2. go to midi sequencer mode of OT, select midi track and double press Playback/Note button under display – Midi note setup page opens. Select midi channel here. It shoud be the same like midi in channel of your Korg. After that you can play the Korg via keyboard while selecting this midi track and also use keyboard for programming sequencer and live recording.
  3. enable send clock in midi settings of OT.

P.S. I don’t have OT near me right now, so I can’t guarantee that I don’ miss something. Also check OT manual on page 110.

Double answer.

This has made my evening, it bloody works!! The midi live rec mode is a dream too, Im hitting chords and it automatically generates triggers for them (you all knew this but for me its a revelation!). Am sending cc info to the synths filters and am noodling for England. Bless this forum, cheers guys!
