New to A4 - a few questions I cant answer from the manual

A few things:

Going to advanced page mode, my page is always set to 15/16 or 63/64 steps. is this normal? I got my unit 2nd hand so Im checking if this is unusual. Its pretty easy to change but it has caught me out several times- The 15 beat bar seems to retrigger every 16 beats rather than loop in a 15 beat structure.

Can you chain 4 patterns and have record active? - essentially recording a 16 bar pattern?

How do you setup the sound pool for a project? Its one thing I don’t think the manual makes very clear. Im using my machine the way it came 2nd hand and the project I’m using seems to have the sound pool banks A and B locked. Im not sure how to get around this as I can’t add or delete sounds… the sound pool thing is all a bit confusing. (I probably just need to spend more time with it)

also: How do you use the sound tags?

Thanks!

  1. can you make it 16/16 ? I mean…are you actually able to change that length or is it fixed to 15/16 (or whatever)?
anyway, maybe create a new Project and check in there if the Pattern Length is “normal” for every pattern.

  2. yes you can =)

  3. Sound Banks are not the Sound Pool. Every Project has a sound pool that can contain a maximum 128 sounds chosen from the Banks.
Locked sounds can be toggled to be un-locked.
Just practice more with the options available when you’re in the Sound Browser or the Sound Manager.

  4. about Tags…its all up to you. I dont use them that much except when i ’ searchin for a BASS or else, then I filter those to make a better search.
I use tags just for searchin, of course :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

maybe factory reset is best … thats what i would do, did, and was suggested to do …

dont be afraid … plenty of people to help you after your reset for example installing new OS or sample pack ,

welcome to the forum and to the wonderful elektron world!

Thanks guys!

Ive had an MD for many many years so Im not new to the elektron world but the A4 is a little different! I keep reaching for the wrong knobs but quite lot of the concepts carry over.
