Yep, one Digitone sound is something like 1kb in size… So you could store 1024 presets in 1MB. Even if the presets were a bit bigger, there’d be room for many thousand presets.

For those unsatisfied with Syntakt’s hi hats, I wonder if HH LAB machine will be more to your liking. I’m not a hi hat connoisseur so I really don’t know. Just curious, that’s all.

Syntakt’s alloy rarely sounds great, so I guess the main limit here is that for digital tracks, building nice Hihat sound is not that easy (but SY tone / FM synthesis allows some nice stuff still!)
HHlab is super interesting, but only available on that 12th track which was already great for hihat. Still cool to have it

I’m curious as well but per my understanding it’s mostly metallic in sound which historically has been kind of lackluster in my experience elsewhere on Syntakt. It’s also worth noting that HH LAB can only be used on Track 12 (the Analog Cymbal track) so that it already an important piece of real estate to fight over for machine choice.

I remember buying my first sampler, a Yamaha A3000, in 1997. Maybe a year later, a new OS was released. I can’t remember exactly what was included in the update but I seem to remember getting a few more filter types, but nothing game changing for sure.

Anyway, the update cost upwards of £100 (around 1/10 of the cost of the sampler) and was in the form of an actual, physical chip. You had to open up your precious sampler, prise out the old CPU and replace it with the new, all the time cacking your pants with the fear of static electricity rendering your beloved A3000 useless in an instant. I carried out the procedure wearing an earthing wristband connected to a radiator pipe.

In terms of workflow this is such a game changer. I’ve been wanting this on elektron devices for a LONG time. Huge improvement, nailing the details of a section without waiting for the whole 4 bars to loop over again can get tricky.

After some thinking I am surprised that we got all the analog machines and not a digital machine or two. Something to keep it seperate from the AR. But I’m really happy we got what we did.

The worst part of this update is that we now probably have to wait another 2years or longer for the next one
I think it’s still a decent update, though. I mean, who was really expecting any dramatic changes like polyphony or sampling

I get some folks were hoping for things that didn’t happen, but this is still a substantial update, IMO. Lots of new sequencing options and more colors to play with. Can’t wait to dive in
