New Rytm has warped metal case

i just opened my brand new rytm and immediately noticed the rytm didn’t sit flat on the table. instead, it wobbled. after trying it out on another table with the same results, i looked at the case, and you can see a small warping/bending/whatever you want to call it to the case. it’s not just the rubber nodules.

this is incredibly annoying to me. this is particularly so because how did this unit pass quality control? the wobble is noticeable the literal second you place the rytm on a surface. then it’s ultra-noticealbe upon the press of any button.

it’s irritating because i just ordered a $1,500 product that i have to immediately send back for replacement for something that should have never made it out of manufacturing.

ugh.

Didnt had this with elektron boxes, but with other gear in metal enclosures. They can deform due tempreture differences etc, doesnt ve to be a production flaw.
If you are brave enough*, you can try to put it on a flat surface, grab it on the outer sides, and press it down from above with your hand wrists, carefull but with force.
Cant give any guaranty that this will work, but it did for me for some of my other gear, where the metal case snapped/bent back in its position, sometimes with a distinct sound ^^.

Anyway, if you just got it new, the best option might be to get a replacement unit.

edit:

Poster from the DSI forum discibing how he bent his A4 back in shape:

“I just bought a new in the box Tempest, and it also wobbled when I set it on a flat surface. I’ve had this happen to me with an Elektron Analog Four too. It’s actually because the metal case isn’t perfectly flat. For both the A4 and the Tempest, I took the units and bent them back into shape by applying pressure to one end forcefully as it hung off the edge of a table. The A4 metal case was relatively easy to bend back into shape. The Tempest case took me a good half hour of applying pressure until it didn’t wobble on a flat surface anymore.”

*dont wanna incide somebody to potentially damage their units, so try this at ur own risk!

there are threads on this describing how simple it is to correct it - it’s not a swiss watch, it’s very fixable, but ask support for guidance

Wobbly Rytm here too, took it out of the truss frame to do some couch potato drumming and when i put it back on the desk it was hard to fingerdrum without a coaster underneath to keep it stable. Going to be looking for those threads, glad its fixable without sending it back to Smorgasbord!

My Machinedrum and Monomachine were both wobbly. Also (somewhat unrelated) my Blofeld eventually became wobbly. I had a mixer that also did this once. It was always devices with metal cases.

Each of these was handled the same way:

[ol]
[li]While the device is sitting on a flat, level surface: Loosen all the screws at the top of the device (or bottom if it’s not an Elektron device) You don’t need to completely unscrew them.[/li]
[li]You should notice that this relieves the tension and the device should sit level. (make sure your table or stand is level)[/li]
[li]Tighten the screws a little bit at a time in an X and + pattern alternating between left/right and up/down. Do not over tighten them! They only need to be snug. Do not tighten them in a straight line across the top or down the side as you may reintroduce unwanted tension.[/li]
[li]Enjoy your non-wobbly device.[/li]
[/ol]

Obviously there are times where this won’t work. But it’s worked for me quite a few times. People have suggested trying to bend the case by putting it on the corner of a table or chair and pressing down on it with your weight. I strongly suggest against that approach. Metal expands and contracts with temperature and humidity changes, since it is screwed together all the way around the entire device at the top and the threads are probably not perfectly aligned, there is likely some slight give at varying degrees on each side, which causes the metal case under the top panel to get twisted. The same thing happened to Hector, which is why he is the way he is.

my point was that i shouldn’t have to correct this very thing for such an expensive piece of equipment. for what’s it’s worth, i attempted the solutions mentioned here, which made the issue temporary go away to a certain degree. i had decided to just deal with it, but after a couple of weeks, the wobble came back. due to this, i had it exchanged from where i bought it. the replacement came in today, and lo and behold, it has the EXACT same issue. it is the exact same wobble with the exact same corner bent up. this is obviously a production batch issue and should be addressed by elektron. it’s fucking frustrating.

i attempted this solution. my wobble mainly went away after very slightly pushing on the corner off the edge of a table. it came back within a couple of weeks, so i had it exchanged with my retailer. the replacement came in today, and it has the EXACT same issue. and i mean exact. it’s the same corner bent up in the same way. this machine is brand new and shipped from a different place my return went to. this is obviously a problem with the RYTM production. i have three other elektron machines without the slightest hint of this wobble issue.

what did you end up doing with yours? i very gently bent mine to where there was no wobble, but it returned later. so i exchanged it back in december. i just now got the replacement, and guess what? it has the exact same issue with the exact same wobble. pretty frustrating.

so i’m curious how your situation turned out. had you just got it new when you posted this?

My A4, and RYTM both did this when I got them new.
I used to have a Tempest, same thing there.

I found the simplest solution was to add my own rubber feet.

These days they are mounted in a case.

Got it when it came out but and like I said, due to the Truss-frame I didnt really notice it. Put a rubber foot under one corner which keeps it steady, the bending didn’t really feel ok…

My Rytm has the same problem, its annoying cause it doesnt fit well with my Other elektron machine who are align side by side but i can live with it.C’est la vie.

Just relieved some stress on my wobbly rytm with this tip, thank you! :relieved:
