I am absolutely and utterly obsessed with the song. Please share anything to do with the song e.g. early versions of the song, gear used, early studio pics, midi files, etc.
I once scatted the synth riff at the top of my lungs at a traffic light with the car windows wide open, to the consternation of other drivers
Which version? The one on the album is my favourite and has pretty much the best pad ever at the end, from about 3:20. Pretty sure it’s the Voyetra 8 layered with an Emulator or something.
A true classic of a tune. Not sure what machine it is but love the drums in it.
Read Peter Hook’s book. He goes over the technical details of a lot of tracks.
Oh man, I never knew about the inspiration for BLT… practically a cover!
That video is gold as well…
I always liked the Frente! version of it ![]()
substance version is best. if i could i would live inside the opening synth loop forever.
I did make love a couple of times during my college years on this Track.
that’s a different kind of oscillation.
You guys aware of this compilation
Awesome! I have DJ’d the two back to back to make it fun because in my neck of the woods this track has been played out to death, while I admit that it is still fun.
A little information about Brotherhood-era gear from Hooky’s and Stephen’s books, and a review by Mark Prendergast in the February 1987 issue of Sound On Sound in which he interviewed Michael Johnson:
Yamaha QX1
Roland MSQ-700
Yamaha DX5
Yamaha TX816
Yamaha RX11
Octave-Plateau Voyetra-8
E-mu Emulator II
Oberheim DMX
Roland TR-808
There’s also a Fairlight, probably from Amazon Studios during the final recording and mixing.
Not all the gear appears on BLT.
First time I’ve heard about the TX816

Bizzarre love triangle is the track that got me into new order back in the day.
