I just grabbed a 501 Pro.
Did anyone figure out/corrected the MIDI implementation ? The manual is soooo full of mistakes/weirdness…
I got some of the parameters working via cc control, not all of them. The way the manual lays it out is v confusing
Ok…
I’m so super confused with the 501 Pro. I want to use it as a sound module only.
Hope you don’t mind if I ask a few questions here.
1. Am I right to assume that the 36 first sounds (the three “old” kits, 501-502 and 512) are not editable in any way ?
(edited : in fact, they are ‘presets’ made with the analog engine)
2. In the manual, notes start from 36 but should start from 24 (classic) ?
(edited : who cares)
3. BD-MFB-512 (note 60/48) is missing ?
(edited : now it’s back…)
4. How do you make settings (midi channel, sample assignments, etc…) retained after power off ?
(edited : works after ‘saving the settings’ described in the manual. It seems that set #1 is automatically loaded on startup)
5. Can a sample be assigned/changed via MIDI ?
(edited : via CC#s)
Sorry, I just read the message. By the way, I sold it very soon, it was too frustrating to have such OS issues and having not anymore the company supporting it anymore, even if I got it for cheap.
No probs. Bought the 501 meanwhile, and I use it all the time as a sound module with a custom M4L controller. I think it’s awesome !
I suppose I should share this here.
I think it’s pretty straightforward and pleasant sounding! Very easy to control with MIDI.
Would you by chance be willing to share the M4L editor for the 501 Pro you made? Got one of these on the way
Here it is, with a small MIDI rack that helps displaying the correct notes and enable mutes.
A (very) few controls don’t work. Not my fault (classic MFB…).

Awesomeness! Really appreciate this (and love your music btw)!
You’re welcome !
Terribly sad these are so hard to find would seem to be one of my fav drum machines
I finally got my hands on one these cash registers this week - love at first play!!! It sounds so lo fi and warm. Funnily enough I find the interface super easy to use and the manual almost fully understandable … maybe I’ve developed my German English sensitivities after having so many MFB drum machines
the factory samples are all so spirited and usable.
