Hey everybody, new user, long time lurker. I’m a fan of the community you all are building here.
My setup is a follows.
Two analog rytms(because I love them so much.) midi synced to a boss RC-300. I have the top AR following the bottom AR through midi and it specifically follows the chain of the bottom AR.
Basically I can start backing track on my RC-300 and create a chain on the Bottom AR which the top AR follows.
I can then loop the aux output from my mixer with my RC-300. I usually use it for Acoustic Guitar but can also choose what signal I’m sending to the RC-300 from my mixer.
SO. With all that being said. I have a few questions.
Swing. Is there any way to control the amount of swing on a pattern using the performance or scene modes? Also swing points confuse me, so if you have any advice on that I would greatly appreciate it.
Is there any way to control the top AR’s Performance/Scene mode using the bottoms chain? What about setting specific trigger points for Scene/Performance mode?
If you have any advice that you think would benefit me or have any questions for me I would love to discuss.
If you’d like to check my stuff out:)
Thanks,
Luke
No clu what I can help you with but your stuff is tops!
Wait… swing trigs are basically a pattern by which respective notes are swung. Usually sequencers have 8th note swing, 16th note swing etc. In our Elektron magic world we can haz any swing pattern imaginable when you enter them swing trigs manually.
Fantastic creative use of the AR(s) together with other gear.
You show the wide range of what the AR can do
and inspire others to experiment and push further.
Thanks for this!
Thanks so much everyone! You’re kind words mean the world to me.
So 4.33, if I want a 16th note swing pattern I’m best putting the swing points on the last page? Would I then remove the swing points from the first three pages?
I love how customizable they are, just trying to get the workflow as efficient as possible. Spending too much time trying to figure out swing % can kill the vibe for me really quick so I’d really like to be able to figure out exactly what type of swing I want on the fly.
Here are two more demo’s. Been putting a lot of energy into these for the past few years and have been working in the AR’s for the past half year or so. I’m loving being able to take my band mates VoX samples and put them on the AR’s. the analog filter with the sample customization is truly amazing.
Thanks again guys! https://soundcloud.com/noe-clu/if-you-ever https://soundcloud.com/noe-clu/up-to-you-final
Hey Joshua,
sorry, can´t help you with your questions as I´m quite new with the Rytm.
I rather have a simple question…
You are easily able to bpm-sync the RC300 to the Rytm?
This would be more then great, its hatd to find a looper that is capable to follow a midi-clock. And I thought the RC300 could only link with another RC300 to stay syncronised. I fiddled around with a pigtronix infinity for a long time, but it never did what it was promising, superbuggy…
So far I have not been able to find a way to sync the RC-300 to the AR’s. I actually have the AR’s following the RC-300. I start a memory on the RC-300 and the AR’s will follow and they do so quite accurately. I’ve heard that there is a potential way to have the RC-300 follow a DAW by setting it to follow certain CC’s but I haven’t had time to dive into that rabbit hole quite yet.
But being able to use one track on the RC-300 for an entire backing track(I put post recorded VoX and Guitar Busses on the backing track.) and then still having two tracks that you can loop on is really nice. I feel like we can continually improve and save our sound/progress.
Yeah, it seems like you have quite a nice recording setup with your things! Bet it makes a good flow possible.
Too bad about the RC300 not being able to follow… cause thats exactly what I need as I often play with people using different Rythmmachines giving Midi Clock. So far I use a Kaoss Pad 3 for this, it can do this perfectly as if it would be the easiest thing in the world (maybe it is? But somehow almost no looping device in the world can do this…). Still there is a lot of limitations on the KP3, like short looplenght + rather low soundquality + those things are made to get broken sooner or later (using my third now…), why I keep looking for alternatives.
But if you add a backing track (gues its a couple minutes) to your RC-300, as you said, how do you get the bpm on it for the Rytm to be able to sync to it? You set the clockvalue manually?
Youre right, two tracks left gives soooo much possibilities to keep enriching the track!
So to put a track into the RC it has to be a 16-bit stereo wav file, which I believe includes tempo information(Might be wrong about that one, IDK.) but the RC will try to guess the measure length and tempo. Sometimes it detects the measure count wrong and changes the tempo so you have to manually go in and set the measure count to the correct corresponding bpm. Once you do and save it, you’re good to go and you can even change the tempo on the RC and it gives a pretty interesting sound because it somehow doesn’t change the pitch of the backing track.
I’m determined to one day sync the RC with an external midi clock. but it would have to have multiple midi outs and be extremely customizable with CC codes. It would have to trick the RC into thinking its another RC.
On another side note, I’ve synced my RC with friends RC’s and it works very very well.
Cool, this gives a good overview of the proceedure and about whats possible, thanks for going into detail!
You wrote about multiple midi outs? There is simple midi split cables to multiply midisignal, but they do not work with every application, good luck =)
Nice music, so this is all two rytm’s and a looper I’m hearing?
& Can Noe give a clu as to who Shem, Ham and Japheth are nowadays,
and where the ant arc is buried?
I will join the chorus of those who don’t have any particular insight to your questions (I don’t have an AR; I could hazard some suggestions but we have some really knowledgeable AR users on the forum) but really appreciate the music! Keep posting; I love seeing people take these machines in different directions!
@cgb wait does the 505 follow tempo? That would add so many possibilities for me.
@PongFu Thats what the drums and what I call vocal synth tracks are coming from yeah. and we’re still looking for the ant arc, no luck yet.
I think I have the workflow down with the rc300 and the AR’s to continually build an extremely customizable, reliable set. So far we have 5 originals and 3 covers we do live, just hard to find shows because we’re so new.
