Nektar Pacer MIDI foot controller w/ OctaTrack preset

Ok @PeterHanes @AndreN @justin3am nektar support got back to me stating that the pacer does NOT generate midi clock start:stop/system real-time messages and thus cannot directly control the rytm start:stop. Bummer! Logidy seems to be the only one then…

So now to find a cheap and functional midi host!

My apologies: I read the initial post in this topic and assumed it could. Thanks for checking with the manufacturer.

No prob @PeterHanes It really seemed it would work. And after some back and forth clarification with their support I still had a very small doubt about the info he gave. I assume he knows better but every once in awhile those support guys know less haha

I ordered the logidy umi3 last night.

I apologize for resurrecting such an old thread but does anyone know if the pacer will work with the model:samples to send start/stop and pattern select messages?

@Blackhawkamps yo! It will NOT send start:stop…i asked a few months ago and heres an email response from their tech support:

“> you can’t send start stop continue from Pacer, but if you enable MIDI clock in a DAW and transmit to Elektron, the start, stop and continue messages will be transmitted that way.

So Pacer can not start/stop Elektron’s transport directly.“

Well, while it’s not the answer I had hoped for, I appreciate the quick response!

Have you found any other foot controller that can? This seems to be a a pretty flaw with elektron gear for my needs.
I’m not a traditional electronic musician where I’m tweaking knobs and pushing buttons. I just want to play guitar along to a drum machine and I’ve already got my hands full

So for those looking for something simple to just assign to two parameters with system real-time messages (start/stop and record for instance): this little guy can do that!

Personally I want something that can also change patterns, but, this will definitely work for SRTMs.

I know this is an ancient thread, but it is possible to use the Nektar Pacer to send transport start/stop. However, you need to use the “preset” section rather than transport, since the transport messages are hard-coded.

I did it by replacing the 4 pedal (which was previously assigned to the Pickup Machine’s direction setting) to the following:

Control Mode: Sequence
Step 1: Note, B1/35 (“sequence restart”), 127
Step 2: Note, A1/33 (“sequence stop”), 127

Each time you tap the pedal it either starts the sequence from the beginning or stops it.

One other note, the default settings work brilliantly using flex record as well as with Pickup Machines.

Hey! I’ve honestly been looking for how to do this with a Nektar Pacer + Digitakt 1 for a long time so I really appreciate you posting this. You’re the only person I’m aware of who has succeeded doing this with the Pacer.

I know this was originally regarding the Octatrack but would it still work with a Digitakt 1? I’m not the most technically savvy person so I’ve done my best to try several variations of what you’ve described but I can’t get it to work. What could I be doing wrong here? (Digitakt is set to receive everything necessary).

I appreciate any advice you can offer! :metal:

@SashaSmith7 i dont have the nektar, i dont have the dt but: if you are using @timmins octatrack-tweaked preset on the nektar, that wont work for DT because i im seeing in the midi appendix of the DT manual that changes via midi only happen with cc/nrpn messages.

The octatrack is older school and used midi notes to make non note related changes via midi (that have now basically been replaced by cc/nrpn in all elektrons)….such as sequencer start/stop.

In digitakt manual it does not appear there are midi cc/nrpn/note values to control start/stop and other transport features. Transport control on most midi things now is done via system realtime messages which is too deep for (most) normal people to deal with. Id consider emailing nektar to ask again since its been years since i discussed this topic with them….

Hi all, I am looking for a midi Pedalboard to mute/unmute the 4 Analog Four tracks. I bought a Behringer FCB1010 but it could not send on different midi channels. Will the Nektar Pacer be able to do this?
