sample slots hold a given sample. switching the sample in a slot works exactly like it does in the md’s ROM memory.

parts are somewhat similar to kits on the md. not exactly, but in the sense that you get 4 parts per bank. each part gets its own set of 8 samples, one per track. (each bank gets its own set of 4 parts, so if you need a 5th “kit”, yes you’ll need to go to a new bank.)

there’s a way around it however. on the ot, you can also use sample locks. so – unlike the md – if you want to use a different sample in one of the 8 tracks, you just need to p-lock each trig to use that different sample. the different sample needs to be in one of the other 127 slots (either flex or static, depending on which type of machine that track uses – you can’t plock a flex machine to use a sample from a static slot).
