I am planning on building some nice rear plexiglass racks to get my A4 standing nicely on a desk !
So far i have found good stuff to buy from Ebay and then recut it.
Has anyone built some? Any advice?
Would wood be easier to work with?
Best type of screw?
If you have pictures and design you’d like to share, i’d love to take a look !
The screws are M3 and there’s not much of a gap between entry and hitting the pcb, maybe 5mm, so depending on your external thickness you may need to cut your bolts or use washers. You may want vent holes and/or may wish to incline the A4 to allow the underside vents to work.
Mine are fancy… brushed aluminium… I have access to machines at work. But I also made the prototypes from plex and use those too since I have more elektron gear.
The acrylic stand I just got from Neil Baldwin is 5mm and he sent me 20mm bolts. Elektron’s rack ear kit comes with 6mm bolts, and the material is 1.5mm thick, if that helps your math.
Dimi3,
I have some basic tools here, mainly for wood work. I am looking around the available plexiglass rack available. if price is right better not go DIY
SLX,
This is a great idea. Could be nice too with wood under the base. Nice idea and Thanks a bunch for sharing !!
KrisM,
20mm is a lot ! Like avantronica mentioned 5mm is about the thread length inside the A4, i just tried.
So for a 5mm plexiglass 12mm thread would be best maybe even alright with 10mm?
thank you all,
I will keep posted on what i decide to build/buy. You’ve been so great help !
Neil’s on this board, maybe PM him and see if he supplies shorter bolts if he knows you’re using an A4? His stands are built with the A4 in mind, though, having holes for the side air vents, so I’d imagine it’s okay, but it never, ever hurts to ask first and he’s good at responding
I’ve PM’d you the email for marmot audio so you can ask about it.
