Need advice - DIY A4 Rack and Stand

Hi !

I am planning on building some nice rear plexiglass racks to get my A4 standing nicely on a desk !
So far i have found good stuff to buy from Ebay and then recut it.

Has anyone built some? Any advice?
Would wood be easier to work with?
Best type of screw?

If you have pictures and design you’d like to share, i’d love to take a look !

PS: If UK based or like myself in Finland there is a nice waterproof case that suits the A4 : http://www.clasohlson.com/uk/Instrument-Case/Pr314142000

The screws are M3 and there’s not much of a gap between entry and hitting the pcb, maybe 5mm, so depending on your external thickness you may need to cut your bolts or use washers. You may want vent holes and/or may wish to incline the A4 to allow the underside vents to work.

Photos are from here.

Thanks Avantronica for the Screw infos !
I was planning maybe some 5mm plexiglass.

Uturunku, that Thon case is great, mostly for gigging though, i have to think about that later, so far my A4 will stay in the studio  Cosy !

any other ideas?

This Style works well if you have two Elektrons.

Nice and simple is two triangles with the right screw holes.

I build my own double rack and I allow for two vents which are one the sides. Which the linked rack doesn’t account for.

Hi Dimi3 ! i saw that one but well it’s “massive” .

I am looking to build one quite simple and light just to give a nice angle the analog 4.

Well there is someone selling some for 47dollars. not bad…

What Material did you use?

Mine are fancy… brushed aluminium… I have access to machines at work. But I also made the prototypes from plex and use those too since I have more elektron gear.

what kind of tools do you have at our disposal?

This was my super simple approach and i am still very happy with it. I build one for my octatrack and another for my monomachine.

The acrylic stand I just got from Neil Baldwin is 5mm and he sent me 20mm bolts. Elektron’s rack ear kit comes with 6mm bolts, and the material is 1.5mm thick, if that helps your math.

very nice and simple!

Dimi3,
I have some basic tools here, mainly for wood work. I am looking around the available plexiglass rack available. if price is right better not go DIY

SLX,
This is a great idea. Could be nice too with wood under the base. Nice idea and Thanks a bunch for sharing !!

KrisM,
20mm is a lot ! Like avantronica mentioned 5mm is about the thread length inside the A4, i just tried.
So for a 5mm plexiglass 12mm thread would be best maybe even alright with 10mm?

thank you all,
I will keep posted on what i decide to build/buy. You’ve been so great help !

Neil’s on this board, maybe PM him and see if he supplies shorter bolts if he knows you’re using an A4? His stands are built with the A4 in mind, though, having holes for the side air vents, so I’d imagine it’s okay, but it never, ever hurts to ask first and he’s good at responding

I’ve PM’d you the email for marmot audio so you can ask about it.

I recently saw someone on utube use a laptop stand bought from ikea for their A4
It was exactly what I was looking for , for my A4
