Mystrix 2 - Wireless Expressive Controller with MPE Capability

This post has been updated with the latest info

Mystrix 2 is an extremely portable, capable, and versatile grid MIDI controller with MPE capability.

This is an early preview of this product before the formal public announcement by the end of the year. I need more suggestions and comments on it before entering pre-production.

For Mystrix 1, see Mystrix - Affordable, Wireless, Force Sensitive, Fully Open Sourced Grid Controller

On top of Mystrix 1 series. Mystrix 2 will have the following improvements.

  • Years of polishing and features in Matrix OS
  • Redesigned exterior
  • Standard built-in battery (7000mAh, 10hr+ usage)
  • Built-in 32GB storage
  • 2x continuous linear analog touchbars hidden in the bezel of the device
  • Ability to USB host and reverse power charging.
  • 3x USB-C ports for power and IO adapters
  • Premium RGBW LEDs
  • Built-in motion sensor

I have made a preview Kickstarter page for more information and its features. You can see at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/203null/mystrix-2?ref=et4ory&token=b44542f5

I would love to know what you think of the device and if any hardware changes need to be made before the design is finalized. The price is undermined yet as well, but it’s interesting to hear what you guys think would be a fit for it.

I might consider this, even just the first one. A Launchpad without being tied to a single ecosystem so strictly.

The 1 and 2 are running the same platform underneath so they will share the same software feature and updates minus 2’s unique hardware feature.

There will also be upgrade path for Mystrix 1 owner to upgrade. :eyes:

Awesome. I’m not sure whether I’ll have the money by the time the campaign starts, but it would be an amazing upgrade for my LPX.

I had to scroll a lot to find more details on MPE, I think you should write more about it the first time you mention it (and also note that it’s only available on the pro version).

Will it be possible to do slides over multiple pads like on the LinnStrument?

Very interesting, thank you for sharing. Is “OS compatibility” relevant for this product or can it be upgraded etc on its own? If you need a computer to upgraded it and more, please specify which OSs yiu support. Since you mention open source, open hardware, Bitwig… the Linux crowd will be interested.

Yes, it will be to slide across the pad. But currently Y axis is not mapped due to the MIDI limitation on the prototype. Maybe I will add MIDI 2.0 support and get that added somehow.

I really need more eyes on the details. ls so that’s why I released it preview stage so that people can help me.

It should be more obvious once the release video is done and I will make sure to show case it.

It’s a completely standalone product that can work as a MIDI controller via USB. So any computer / phone / or table can use it and can update it.

You can learn more on Update Matrix OS | 203 Systems. It’s pretty easy to update.

I will mention the difference with Pro more explicit in revisions.

The original plan was just release the Ultra on the campaign. Introduction with Pro variant is a recent change due a lot of feedback from the community.

I just pushed the OS 3.0 release for existing Mystrix today.

It now can run user made python applications, and the note app got a massive upgrade with Orchid like chord mode, arpeggiator, latch, custom scales, and a few layouts etc.
