So the information has basically been out now, I don’t expect to cover anything ground breaking here, just sharing my visit with Elektron at NAMM today.
Everyone was nice and happy to chat it up. Cenk gave my friend and I a personal demo of Rytm. I was free to ask questions while he played. The information below could be incorrect, fair warning. (long day)
It does not sample. You may load audio files into it via USB, and play back said samples.
You can layer a sample and an analog modeling engine on one pad.
It has MIDI in/out/thru
It has 4 outputs in addition to L&R
It has p-locks and such in the sequencer. It accepts CC - you will be able to control parameters via MIDI LFO on Octatrack
The RAM and some OS features are not finalized yet. (hence no official specs)
They hope to ship by March
It’s awesome, it totally bumps, and I want one. The pads were a little smaller then I expected.
I also had the goal of getting a tip for use of my Octatrack. Cenk gave me a gem, maybe you guys already use this technique… seems like it would work on any elektron device (although I only use OT, so maybe the older stuff doesn’t do this)
My question was; I like to record automation on the OT in realtime. Sometimes, I goof the pass (i’m only human, dammit). So what’s the best way to undo? (anyone else have to clear all the triggers they just made?) The answer he gave me was so simple, but I don’t do it, so to me it’s gold; use the “Track Copy” command before your record. If you don’t like what you did, simply paste back on the same track to overwrite.
DUH! and, AWESOME!
Thats it, I’m kicking my feet up, dogs are killing me.

Track Copy is damn smart; I’ve got to start using that.
My takeaway as of now is that this machine is looking pretty sweet, but is far from finished; from what I’ve gathered, there is an entire bank of controls that are largely unfunctional as of this demo. That’s ok, because I trust that Elektron will have worked out enough bugs by release time and will keep working to improve it as they have with their other products. As it stands, the sound is what I’d hope for (coughRoland Killercough), and I’m intrigued enough that I wouldn’t sell my MD but can see lots of potential in this as a companion.
For anyone who has tried it, the pads look about the same size as the Launchpad to me. Is this about right?

To be fair, whilst it’s just a bit of semantics, I get the confusing phrase as meaning an analogue circuit modelling a particular type of drum sound. I doubt he meant or thought that it was in any way VA
Top tip about grabbing a copy before you tinker- very useful
No way that took 7 mins to type even on the iPad. How often is this page updated! This happens a lot, maybe I read too slow
I had a chance to play around with the Analog RYTM yesterday at NAMM. There were many instant grin moments playing with it. Especially the distortion! It’s vicious.
While all this is subject to changed based on their development… The parameters for the different track/synth voices are useful and easy to dial in new changes. The sample page is shows the sample number, turning the knob then displays the file name for the sample.
The layout/style and architecture present a different type of immediacy compared to other drum machines. Plocking different samples within the same voice/track is good fun, sounds great. I also spied side chain option on the compressor.
I managed to upload some pics of the RYTM and other gear here:

Hello Andrew,
Is it only ”one sample" pr. patch or can you fill out the 8 voices with samples?
You said that it could not sample, but is it possible to re-sample the transferred samples like converting the bit rate and KHz, so you can make your samples lo-fi on the machine?

To the folks that tried this beast at NAMM, was it possible to just use a sample on a voice and turn down the synthesis layer?

Really have no answers, played for as long as one does at such a show, and just tried to ask as many Qs as I could think of. The sound is impressive, and (with cenk at the controls) looked fast to use.
If I didn’t already own an OT, I might feel differently about picking up a Rytm. It’s been designed to complement the OT, so some features don’t overlap (sampling).
