My OT is randomly bit crushing?

unlisted video for example. I only have one track with a Neighbor. FX are Delay, Filter, and Dark Reverb. No Lo-Fi on either track. T8 is Master with NONE on both FX slots. But every now and then the sample will sound like it’s being modulated with sample rate reduction…tF???

That’s weird. Does it happen on any sample? And are there any LFO assignments or locks on the sequencer? I can’t say I’ve seen this before

No it isnt randomly bit crushing. That noise is internal clipping artifacts.

You’re clipping one of the FX internally. Probably the reverb. Reduce amp vol on the track that has reverb, or the source sound.

This seems really odd - AMP VOL is at unity on both original track/neighbor and the actual sample itself is a soft pluck with barely any gain I also have normalized kicks on another bank that don’t clip the FX like this.

EDIT: I tested it now just to be safe and cranking the gain stage doesn’t reproduce it either

Yeah, I don’t know. It really sounds like sample rate reduction, and not like clipping. Is timestretching enabled on the track that’s playing the sample?

If you turn the amp vol down does it go away?

(Amp vol at zero doesn’t mean you have unity after the amp, some FX add gain.)

If you turn the OT off then back on again does it go away?

Thank you both for your help and thoughts; it’s very sporadic unfortunately! Turning off and on again still has it. Turning AMP to -64 turns down the entire signal so I can’t tell if it’s still happening or not. It seems to happen at random times in the pattern too (just a single bar length). It really doesn’t sound like clipping to me but like a bizarre conversion of the sample rate.

My only guess so far is that the LFO modulation is too much for a static track and the CF card itself can’t keep up. But I thought that was only a concern when modulating sample start positions…

I noticed the crossfader is moved slightly in the direction of Scene B. Do you have any active scenes going? Try switching parts entirely and loading up a sample to see if it does the same thing.

Doesn’t ever happen with Flex? Does it happen when both fx slots are empty and/or all modulation is zeroed out? Do you hear it with headphones? Try removing everything, but bare sample playback and then step by step add fx, modulation, master track etc. Remove midi if present for the test.

Btw, really sounds like OT’s SRR is being modulated/turned up. That’s weird.

That’s a good idea. Or even switching to a new project if you want to be really sure there’s nothing being accidentally activated/modulated.

Also, does this happen with other samples? And what’s the sample rate of the sample? If it’s just this file and you want to share the sample file I’ll try it on my OT

I would also try setting the Dark reverb HP to 64 and see if it still happens.

If you have an LFO modulating a filter into a wide open reverb, you can get unwanted artifacts.

This is a pretty old bug that I have encountered multitude of times and ruined some recorded jams. Unfortunately, I have yet to see another workaround than to reload reverb FX - the bug seems to originate from copying and pasting Reverb settings.

Interesting. I made a lot of reverb copies to test the Reverb in FX1 hack, and the artifacts were weird with wrong settings.
Iirc it was constant though.

This exact thing has happened to me many times (on a mkI in case somebody is wondering) including today. I think @Motas is correct, it has something to do with copying and pasting the reverb effect and not related to clipping of any kind.

Yeah, definitely didn’t sound like that sample clipping. The artifacts sound straight up like sample rate reduction – which can be cool, but it’s nice to use it intentionally, in a controlled fashion.

Yeah, I do that FX copy hack sometimes, but I never hear the artifacts in this video. I wonder what else needs to happen.

In the link to the bug they mentioned it happens if banks are reordered and copied around… OP didn’t mention anything about banks though

In my case today I think I had copied a dark reverb from one track to another but not to fx1 as I never do that. Project was quite fresh too and had only a few patterns on one bank.
