no advice here, just wanted to say I like the track, makes me wanna grab a cocktail and head for the pool
ah darn, just edited my first post instead of posting this, my bad…
I guess it sort of depends what your aims are?
has anyone ever made anything with a Digitakt (or less!) and then just taken a bounce of the master and released it and it sounded good, and people danced? Yes!
but…
could they most likely have improved the mix by exporting into a DAW or running it through a desk? Also yes!
you’re getting way more options in a DAW (compressor per track, reverb and delay per track, the ability to easily double things, stereo tools, send fx per track - a lot of things the DT can’t do…)
you can of course just make tracks in the DT and call them finished - but equally, you can write the track, bounce the parts and do loads of mixing work in a DAW after that.
Fair enough, and yeah I sort of see that. Yet at the same time, I’ve listened to house and electronic for years and I’m always surprised just how many things producers can have going on at once. But I guess they’re chosen carefully so as not to compete for frequencies.
Thank you! Really appreciate that.
Yeah that makes sense. I’ve watched several live performances using just the DT and some people out there make really nice-sounding stuff, just on the DT (I suppose there might be other things in the signal chain, but some of it was definitely just DT.) As someone said earlier, I suppose that comes down to clever use of filters and intelligent choices of instruments.
I’m ambivalent about DAWs. When I started out I was adament I wouldn’t touch them. By day I’m a software engineer so for me I want to be as far from a screen as I can in my free time. I also work on a 14" laptop, and I can’t imagine DAWs are going to be much fun on so small a screen (probably get a second hand monitor). On the other hand, I’m excited by the possibilities of making my stuff sound better, and of getting into the world of Overbridge (never used it).
Anyway, thanks once again.
