My First Minimal/House Track [DT + A4]

Hello elektronauts, here is my first minimal track. I’m rookie so please don’t judge much. Used DT and A4.

Really nice man! The only bit of constructive criticism I would offer, because it has happened to me when recording the DT, is watch the high-end EQ because sometimes high hat sounds can get a bit piercing, especially when listening on headphones. I really wish the DT had EQ per track because now I have to deal with this when recording, rather than on the DT itself.

Seriously, though, great work! Looking forward to hearing more tracks!

sounds good, i like the bass line, the mix is clean too. it needs a little movement to keep it interesting (for example changing up the chord that runs throughout) and a few more percussion changes/fills.

good effort.

Thanks a lot !

Thanks, I’m trying to learn track arrangement, this is hardest part for me, especially that I’m not using DAW.

No worries. The DT is such an awesome machine, but EQ’ing can be tricky. The bass is sometimes really hard to get right as well. On some tracks I’m fighting the bass and on others the treble. The struggle continues, lol.

I’m in the same boat. No DAW.

From an arrangement standpoint, I actually think the DT’s limitation of 64 steps is actually a positive. My new approach is to try to avoid looping one pattern beyond 64 steps and moving to another pattern to add variety. I’m still learning as well. Trial, error, and experience, like everything in life I suppose.

you’re welcome. i’m in the same boat with arrangement. i’m finding that jamming it out for 10-12 minutes and taking that as a template is working for me now. coming from a dj background, i find it easier and way less tedious.

My technique for now, is to listen tracks and analyse it, write down on paper all track elements, all stops, drums, etc.

yeah i did that for a while too, found it was sucking all the fun out of it haha. i’ll come up with stuff while performing it that i wouldn’t have otherwise thought of. finding a workflow that works for you makes everything easier.

Dont worry to much about that , its all about the groove . Good minimal house or techno , has such a good groove going , that it can go on for 10mins with zero to none track arrangement, and without boring a second. its all about subtle changes and shifts …
