My first hiphop live set

Hey Nauts!

Some days ago, a good friend of mine who operates a streetwear brand had a party to launch his new collection… and I was invited to play a live set during the first part of the event.

I just had a few days to prepare… had to think / act fast! So, inspired by the Mellotron livesets (check Khryo at Le Mellotron to see what I mean…) I chose to go the SP404(mk2) liveset way…

So here it is: 35 minutes of beats made by me, some old, some new, straight hiphop, made on a variety of hardware (po33, opz, digitakt, octatrack, maschine, sp404mk2) + some (un)tasty skits lifted from the bottom of the net + a boatload of lazers / yeah / dubsirens / swordsounds + a healthy dose of perf fx to remix the music… All that, mixed and cooked on my SP404mk2, mixtape style, performed live in front of a (small) crowd, recorded on a tascam and shared with you today.

Écouter Shi live @ Virone Party / Hotel Dupond-Smith par Shi aka Le J sur #SoundCloud

As I’m rather pleased with how the recording turned out, I consider this a good display of my musical endeavour till now! Hope you’ll enjoy it!

Woop woop, mixtape time!

this is a fun set! drums are groovy all over, im enjoying the sample selection, love the glockenspiely sounds around 9 minutes. im having a blast just playing little piano licks while i listen, kind of a fun way to do some ear training. makes me wanna hear some MCs on there too!

Thanks a lot, man! That means a lot, because “fun” is really something I associate with your music as well. Playing along is a nice idea: I’ve been learning organ for a while, and playing along my beatset would be a nice touch!
