Muzka returns to Freebooter Lounge to flex muscle across a multitude of genres in his new five track EP. The opening track sees Muzka pen a tale about Jimmy, a young man failed by the system and mocked by society. Soulful licks with sloppy beats accompany the sorrowful lyrics contrasting track two, ‘Step Up’ which picks up the tempo and mood.
‘Step Up’ is a happier affair using sliced vocals with 80s synth stabs, guitar plucks and breakbeats. Muzka aiming for the dance-floor, early doors or a summery evening at a festival whilst hugging a mate as the sun sets.
‘Back To Work’ sees a punkier tougher edge to Muzka as he brings chopped up funk guitars to the mix with crashing beats, swirling vocal loops and skanky bass riffs.
Muzka claims a love of NY disco punk which we see sprinklings of here.
‘Time Approaches’ has that classic sound he’s known for on Freebooter lounge mixing ambient, Balearic, chill out and trip hop elements in a mid tempo track that floats along with ease. Muzka writes a lyric that means both everything and nothing, whatever that means. Enjoy by the pool sipping a cocktail or in your headphones plodding through the rain.
‘Past The Future’ finishes the package with nods to the sound of his early freebooter release. A moody sonic soundscape of clashing synths and reverb soaked vocals with not a beat to be seen nor heard. A wind down after a long hard day space travelling.
A smorgasbord of tunes one might say. Enjoy
