This is definitely the right sub to poke fun at people, but I think performative gesturing (miming) is part of being a DJ to the audience. There is a cultural expectation that your DJ be enthusiastically gesturing, directing the audience and creating hype are part of the job and sometimes that entails miming changes to the music without actually adjusting the equipment.
