This works both positions.
How come it wasn’t invented before?

Something I’m a bit embarrassed over having learned so late (like a year ago, after using USB for… 20 years?).
Most USB cables have the USB “logo” imprinted on what can be considered the “up” side of the connection. So once you learn which side your, for example laptop port, is “up” (because sometimes they are “upside down”), you’ll be able to know which side it should be inserted with by just looking at the end of the cable
Knowing this has made my life 43.7% less stressful
LOL. I learned the same thing last year. haha.
Learning this is one of those truly life changing moments! A similar tip we all seem to learn too late, this icon on your dash tells you which side of your car the fuel cap is on

That better be a right hand drive car with the fuel on the passenger side. Fuel doors on the drivers side is straight clown world.
Also here an unrelated music meme
Seems like a trivial thing, why it matters? For what it’s worth, my fuel door is on the right side (while driver side is on the left), but haven’t really experienced anything bad about it. I use pumps on both sides, as the hose is long enough to pull to the “wrong” side if there is no left-side pumps available at the gas station.
It’s amazing how many people I see waiting at pumps seemingly because their filler flap is on the opposite side. They even put big signs on the pumps saying “extra long hoses, reach both sides”
I think the filler cap position comes from the market the vehicle is designed in. My German car and my British assembled works van have them on opposite sides.
I don’t want to post off-topic…but I’ve driven the same car since 2018 and can tell you which side the filler cap is on except when I’m about to enter a petrol station and then I have a mild panic about it even though I know the hose will reach to the other side.
This little icon convention has certainly saved me a fair amount of anguish since learning about it - all of the above still happen, but are resolved more quickly.

One of the many times i went to see Urban Dance Squad live, the sound was so loud i started to hear Tinnitus during the show after the fourth track or so.
luters gonna lute!
I only learned this a few years ago. and then Covid and WFH came along, combined with barely ever driving. now have to reference this every time I fill up, since it’s different between my car and my wife’s, and I always forget which is which. so I’m very thankful I learned it when I did, otherwise I’d be doing the above-mentioned USB port 100% chance of being wrong the first time thing whenever I went to fill up.
OK I’m a little brighter than that
