Multitrack recording with fx block

Hi.

I can’t get my head around on how to record all tracks separately, including the fx block.
No matter what I do, it just gets very messy and especially the fx block is much louder then all the other tracks. But even when I dial it down, if my setup is slightly different in my next pattern, it all doesn’t add up anymore.
I thought about not using the fx block at all when recording, but then I am missing out the most fun and I wouldn’t be able to make great transitions between patterns and other effects anymore.

I actually wouldn’t need much. The kick recorded separate to the rest would make me already happy, but somehow I just can’t get a good workflow, especially because every song has a different fx-block setup

If anyone has any tips regarding that? I also don’t want to throw away the amazing opportunity to multitrack record to be honest

Are you talking about recording to your computer via usb and Overbridge or recording everything one at a time through the main outs on the syntakt in to an audio interface?

recording via usb and Overbridge. Sorry, I wasn`t clear about that

you’re all good! Alright just a few more questions. I don’t really understand what you’re trying to accomplish still, it sounds like you’ve got everything recording okay, is it just an issue of levels?

With Overbridge you should be able to record all of Syntakt’s tracks at the same time including the fx track and then process them all individually. So if the fx track is too loud once you’ve recorded it in you could always turn it down and or eq it so that it fits better in the mix. Try experimenting with taking different tracks out of the FX too as it might make a big difference in sound if you take the kick out of the fx track or anything else that might be taking up a lot of space in the mix

Lets say I record all tracks, but a few of them I let run through fx. Not only do I need to turn down the fx volume, I also have to basically mute or delete all other tracks which I have selected in the fx track. Otherwise they would overlap with the fx track if that makes sense?
Now, lets say in the next pattern I have routed different tracks through the fx block. I have to manually delete all the other recorded tracks again so nothing overlaps and I have to balance the volume again. On top of that I have to deal with the same issue for the send effects.

Or am I making it more complicated than it is?

I used Overbridge for the first time recently, and since I didn’t have anything too complicated on the FX block I recreated it in my DAW with a send delay and reverb, and an instance of Trash 2 on the syntakt group bus.

Then I dialled them in to sound more or less like the FX block and finally muted the FX track.

That would be a solution, but I have so many songs already using the fx-block. Also, it’s one of the most exciting features on the syntakt. It totally destroys multitrack recording though

Is there really no other way? It kind of makes sense to me that all tracks which are routed through the fx block will come out as one merged track. But shouldn`t there be a way to at least “automatically” mute the individual track output as soon as its routed through fx? That would at least make sense to me.

Right now when I do multitrack recording with the fx block, even I dial it down to a degree, it will still overlap with the other tracks and produces a huge mess. That also makes it hard performing during recording as I don`t hear the correct output.

I am surprised no one else has issues with that. Maybe I need to change my mindset here? Or my workflow is just wrong and multitrack recording is overrated?

So you want to multitrack record via OB, but your issue when monitoring the recording via the DAW/OB output is that the individual tracks, when routed through the Syntakt fx block, are duplicated in the DAW because OB also taps them pre-fx block. And that only becomes a problem because it’s never the same duplicated tracks in the DAW that you need to mute because it’s different on every Syntakt pattern?

Are you trying to add DAW fx to the non-fx block routed tracks while performing on the Syntakt?

yep. sometimes I am also just turning the fx block on and off during a performance. I would need go through each part and manually mute the tracks at the time the fx block is running.
