Multi box setup without a mixer

Bastl dude is your friend, if you are looking for a very small and basic solution

I would love a Bastl dude but it is not stereo. I have pestered them about a stereo version.

Have you looked at the Behringer RX1602 v2?
I used to use one and it was pretty dirt cheap, handy and very low noise.

If these VLZ Mackies had USB, they would be perfect.

I use a K-Mix that I sometimes think about replacing, but nothing comes close. 8 inputs (or 4 stereo inputs), 10 outs, 3 aux buses (all stereo), and separate usb channels for all of them. USB powered, class-compliant, small, tough. Etc.

Downsides: fiddly input gain/trim. Some folks don’t like the touch controls (I don’t like them much, but they’re way better than no controls, as on most interfaces), and the reverb is so-so.

The Mackie Onyx Series has multichannel USB. And FX. So there’s that. And depending on one’s needs that may be a good way to go.

But it costs more. And personally, I kind of like my current USB audio interface. And I already have FX.

Yeah. Hard for me to recommend a fiddly mixer with a cursed, ‘bad touch’ interface. It only reinforces how McMillen maybe isn’t as smart as he thinks he is.

I had a brief play on a K-Mix in a music shop on Monday, could easily see how the touch interface would divide opinion, but it is decently specced.
Got a Mackie 802/4, it’s ok.
It’s old and bulky so no usb, but has a fair number of inputs and good monitoring and hipster-friendly cassette recording - Tascam Portastudio 424iii
