Yooo, so I’ve been swept up in finger drumming hype recently (spinscott why you making me spend money). I have a wavestate going into my DT. Each of the 4 parts are on the midi channels a,b,c,d on DT. Now if I’m getting into finger drumming and live performance: is it worth me getting a standalone MPC (1000??) And not bothering with midi wizardry, or would getting an MPD 232 work well? My concern is triggering the wavestate through the DT from the MPD and how that would work. I don’t have the biggest budget so this would be cheaper and the faders are a massive plus for performance

I have an MPD 226 that I used with my Digitakt, and out into a JP8080 in an industrial band.
Controlling the Wavestate with the MPD ought to work fine. I’m all about frugality and versatility in my gear.
The MPDs are pretty easy to program right from the machine, without software (though the software can make it faster) and every pad/fader/knob can be programmed to send to a different channel and note. The MPDs also offer multiple “pages” or banks of pads/knobs/faders, which is also helpful.
The manual for the MPD you’re looking would be best bet to come to grips with your use case, but long story short they’re great, and don’t really involve learning a new workflow, really.
I find the pads pretty good, but I’ve never touched a “real” MPC, so grain of salt and all that.

I also have an MPD226 I use with my setup, which includes a DT/DN pair, and it’s pretty great. It’s easy to program, and has multiple banks for both the pads and controls.

For an MPD -> DT -> Wavestate setup with the most flexibility, I would recommend also getting a MIDI merge box, and running the MIDI Out of the MPD into the DT, and then both the MIDI Out and MIDI Thru from the DT INTO the merge box, so you effectively combine the MIDI data of the DT and the MPD for the Wavestate, while also being able to control the DT with the MPD.

Nice one for the tip, will save me a lot of issues down the line with this. I have an 8 port midi thru box so I’m all set:)
