MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 4)

Akai should make their own skins or team up with a company like MPC-Stuff.com. Custom skins can bring in some easy steady cash.
Do anyone any idea why they haven’t jumped on this?

Because they can charge you again for a whole new unit instead :smiling_imp:

Do you know what specs to look for in a powered hub?

I’ve tried to use my UMC1820 through a powered usb 3 hub I have at home, to eliminate pops/crackles I’m experiencing when Monitoring the audio in…
But the only powered usb hub I’ve tried so far didn’t do any difference in my case.

I wouldn’t imagine any powered hub would make any difference in that use case, the UMC already has a 20w standalone power supply so it won’t be drawing it’s operating power from the usb and if it is it would absolutely minimal voltage as the 20w it requires would include plenty of overhead to cover full use of all it’s functions, have you tried getting a new power supply for the UMC? Just in case it isn’t outputing it’s rated power and causing the glitches?

Ah, so the usb hub advice is only applicable for audio interfaces that gets their power through the usb, got it :+1:
I have a hard time thinking my power supply is defective, bought the UMC new like a month ago… But I’ll need to check if I find another power supply I can test with.

I don’t have a UMC but I do have a lewitt connect six that I can hook up to test and see if I get any glitches, it’s been fine as an output interface when I’ve used it but I haven’t tracked in on it, what are the steps to repro the issue in your case?

That would be super helpful

  • So in my case I have a project where I have 30-40% cpu usage, and 50% memory usage. So not an empty project.
Note: Even though removing tracks when testing, and getting down to like 17% cpu usage and 20% memory usage, the pops/crackles are still there. So doesn’t seem to be the cause.

  • To my UMC1820 I have connected 4 Stereo audio sources.
I also have an ADAT interface with one extra stereo device connected.
So 5 stereo tracks all in all.
Note: Removing the ADAT completely when testing doesn’t do any difference to the pops/crackles.

So 4 or 5 stereo sources needs to be connected and making sound at the same time when testing.

Then in the MPC:

  1. Add 4 or 5 Audio tracks.
  2. Set each Track to the different stereo input sources of the audio interface.
  3. Enable Monitor In on all 4 or 5 Audio tracks.
  4. Press Play Start, like 10 times with 2 seconds in between each play. Any pops/crackles?
  5. Then press play and let the sequence run over and over. Any pops/crackles?
  6. While sequencer is playing, switch sequences back and forth. Any pops/crackles when the sequence changes?

Here is an audio example of what I’m having in my case…

Okay I’ll have a look later after work, my interface doesn’t have that many inputs but I’ll use all available and follow your steps :+1:

@datgood I tried to connect my MPCxl to the es-9 and not only could I not get it to show up as an interface, it fully froze my device. I couldn’t even power it down. I had to unplug to force restart. When I went to audio device in preferences, nothing would show up except the option for internal. Sorry I couldn’t be of more help.

So I had my lewitt hooked up running an existing project at 35% memory and 45% CPU, added 4 additional audio tracks all set to receive mono signals from four inputs, monitoring set to on and had zero drop outs, clicks or artifacts either when stopping or starting of changing scenes in the clip matrix…

@JonMakesBeats this is so dope and I hope you make a specific thread for this when it’s fully released.

I just had a similar thing, when I checked and unchecked 32 ins and outs I could select which interface to use again…

Thanks man! Super excited about it

Thanks for testing. Well then it seems there is something else going on for me. I have already basically replaced all cables, tested the power supplies in different wall sockets etc. etc. without a single improvement.

I’m almost 100% sure that the UMC is working as intended since I can connect it to my PC and set the buffer size to 8 samples, and run 5 stereo track out from my gear, without even a hiccup in the audio…

Just curious. Are you on an MPC One? I’m on an OG Live, and it seems many who are more successful with their usb audio are on MPC Ones. But that is speculation only. I was under the impression that the internals were identical, but starting to wonder if some important components related to this perhaps are different

No problem, I’m on a live 2 here…

I ran across the weirdest behavior. I’m sending notes and MIDI CC to an external synth using a MIDI track.

Well, if I change the MIDI IN monitoring setting on said MIDI track, using the main encoder, sends a MIDI CC #64 out to the synth I’m controlling, totally screwing up my sound!

Anyone know how to turn it off? I’ve tried disabling everything in MIDI settings…

Go to Track View, click on ‘MIDI Filter’, uncheck ‘CC64 Sustain On/Off’.
That’s on the Force, should be similar on the MPC.

Edit: Oh crap, you’re right - despite the above, changing the MIDI Monitor setting via the encoder or + - buttons, sends this:

Ohhh, I thought I was totally out of luck. Thanks, need to try this, made my day!

Also happened to me one time when toggling the 32-I/O checkbox like @Symian mentioned.
Sigh. We’ll just have to wait till they decide to fix this.
