MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Interesting to hear that the plugins are better as NI is known to have great plugins. How is the cpu? Do you find that it maxes out constantly?

Luke you said, the mpc workflow isn’t great, so maschine would be interesting

the mpc workflow is wonderful imho, but for static loops maschine is good imo

I didn’t say MPC workflow is not great. I said M+ is smoother.

As for plugins. I’m talking about what’s available in standalone. Sorry for the confusion.

If M+ adds the Kontakt instruments and all their cool stuff, it’s game over.

I wonder why they wouldn’t have made their kontakt instruments work already, they’ve got the resources… is there something inherent about maschine that makes it too much of a hurdle to do that?

that’s what I meant by maschine is good for static stuff re: smooth, when it comes to music with variation it becomes alot less smooth for my use, I find the mp caters more so to variation at least in my experience … subjective i know

I dig the screen

:man_shrugging:t5: sorry

adding: ELIMINATE the shit velvety, melty soft coating…FOREVER.

For me for sinple things its good, but its a bit menu divey and the touch screen experience isnt great, especially for muscle memory or editing piano roll etc. Great for chopping though.

If they added cursor buttons from the X onto the Live/one units, that would have made it a bit better.

Or maybe I’m just used to using the old mpc2000xl…

I had an S1000 and a CD3000 and there is nothing more cumbersome than getting anything done on those micro screens. NEVER want to go back to that for chopping and sequencing. I’m over it.

I’ve adapted and updated to the current way of doing things. And to go back just seems like taking steps backwards in productivity.

has anyone with a 512 or larger internal ssd managed to fill it up? a lot of people seem to go with the 1tb size but it feels like overkill unless you’re planning to digitize your entire vinyl collection to wav files or something.

Oh those things are definitely cumbersome. Even the mpc2000xl, the chopping was a nightmare.

I have 500G and it’s prob 4% filled
Better there and the terribly small internal drive.

I think I’d have done better to use the SD slot instead. The internal addition is overkill…for me anyways

I used a SD with the OG live and it was great.

@shigginpit SD card was 256 and no where near a quarter full!

I kinda feel like right now where an sd card will cost you 20 bucks and a 512 ssd will cost you 30 it could probably go either way as to what is a better value. I’ve seen more memory cards corrupted on other devices than ssd drives but that doesn’t mean the card was specifically at fault, sometimes a janky device will corrupt the card with bad data. But it’s lead me to the impression that memory cards are more easily corrupted than solid drives.

Either way, I think it’s safe to say that 1tb is probably over the top for most stallones.

agreed, the fader too!..
as a matter of fact i want something different, 2 qlink faders and 1 crossfader

SD card is way easier. Putting the drive in my MPC was a bitch. The cable was installed initially flipped and it shortened it enough that I had to fully take that bitch apart to get it in.

I dunno what on earth you be doing with a TB of samples. I guess you’d spend the lions share of your time looking for a sample vs making music.

less is more

But do you find yourself touching non-touch screens & wondering why it’s not working?

Give me 2 crossfader!

I don’t find myself touching non touch screens…ever.

I even had a post-it on my screen at werk saying NO FINGERS. For some unknown reason artists tend to wanna put their greasy fingers all over the monitors. [im an animator. Some would argue that we aren’t artists, but we are]

It’s OK, I won’t tell nobody.

Tell ‘em what?

properly said: “I won’t tell anyone” :+1:t6:

I frequently forget that my desktop pc has a touch screen, that’s how little I touch it. Sat there with a dead mouse and no battery one time thinking “man I’m in a real fuckin pickle right now, how am I going to finish what I was doing” trying to figure out if I could remember how to alt and tab my way around the problem.

To the subject of drive space though, I think the issue is probably for the person who has not just content but several years worth of projects on super heavy use with that as their only device and I still can’t see it being an issue. For me at least, even if I was in that position.
