MPC Thread : MPC Live - MPC X - MPC One (Part 2)

Does the SP-404 mk2 not feel like a real instrument to you? I’m guessing that’s the size and weight they’re going for with a theoretical mini, still very much playable for a finger drummer. Not something impossibly small like an M8.

Personally I felt like the Live 2 was a bit too large and heavy for a backpack, at least without proper protection. The SP I could throw into my backpack without much worry about it getting all banged up inside because it’s so lightweight.

IMO the Live 2 size would make it portable in theory but not in practice whereas something like the Synthstrom Deluge is legitimately portable.

for me the OG tracker is the ideal portable, while the M8 is the ideal ultra portable… the mpc live, and mpc one imo are merely mobile.

Perhaps not as portable as your phone, but absolutely portable by any other standard.

You guys gotta eat your Wheaties.

Cheers!

Anything smaller and your looking at half baked devices like Novation Circuit or Pocket Operators.

Cant DAW with that size.

Nah, gotta save that Wheaties money for more hardware that will barely be played!

MPC studio but it integrates very deeply with Ableton and has a row of 8 encoders please!

I am interested in buying an replacement battery for my Akai MPC Live II.

The battery in my unit is still working. I would like to have a spare battery ready in case the now installed battery drastically decreases in performance.

Has anyone here ordered a replacement battery yet and if so for what price and shipping cost?

I know that MPCstuff sells some, their price and shipping costs are pretty high for the region where I live (Berlin/Germany), there would be customs and import tax on top.

Are there any alternatives or did anyone order from inMusic directly?

Anybody ever get this error? This started a couple of months ago, only happened occasionally. Now it literally happens every four or five seconds, making the use of the SSD impossible. It connects, I might have time to load a project, but usually is disconnects instantly and gives me this message.

Oddly, this has also been happening with the SD card, except I don’t even have an SD card installed. It just gives me the disconnect message once at startup. I wonder if there’s a connector that’s loose between the main board and the memory section of the machine?

This is a Live 2, by the way.

I uninstalled the SSD and transferred my backed up stuff to an SD card and that is working fine, no ejections, no errors. Ordered a new SSD, let’s see if that was the problem

The live 2 feels too much like a computer with complicated guts that can get messed up from banging it around… it is great at being portable but you need to take care of it… I have a opz for grab and go that I love.

I tend to ask friends traveling from the US to buy the parts there for me (MPCStuff.com) and then bring it over on a visit. That or, if you find more people interested in stuff from them, have a „Sammelkauf“ and pay shipping only once at least.

It‘s a real pain either way.

I might have some of my wife‘s family visiting from the States later on this year (big maybe, but still). If you don‘t find a better (and faster) solution by then, I can let you know when they do decide to come — I could probably have them bring this with them to Berlin (also based here).

Bolo’s cadence is sample worthy, and usually comes with some sample worthy dialogue ‘no cuts no breaks’

‘No cuts no breaks’ just means unedited video then?? It’s not hip hop slang?? :upside_down_face::grin:

I have a great workflow going at the moment with my MPC where I’m focussing a lot on the Looper.

I like to record to audio as fast as I can, and I play in live a lot (beats on the pads, keys, bass, guitars, etc), and the secret sauce I’m finding at the moment is recording to the Looper then using the Sample Edit to chop into Regions (usually 8 or 16 for me depending on the Seq length), then ‘Convert’ and hit ‘Create New Prog using Slices’ and hit ‘Create Events’.

It probably reads harder than it is in reality, once you do it a couple of times it starts to flow.

I find it makes the ‘Audio Tracks’ unneeded, and their implementation has always been a gripe for me.

If I was set up to make videos (both physically and mentally ) I would do one on this topic as I think the Looper seems underrated by MPC’ers.

yeah just means unedited video, but when you cut the phrase up rhythmically on any scratch deck, it becomes something else

I agree and think all of the additional features of the latest mpcs are underrated because the core workflow is so nice and simple … but it’s nice to have all of those things in the box, you could use it forever and not use half of it
