I belieb it. Itās the only MPC to not get the retro facade, and the One and Live II in retro were listed as XL versions on some shops.
It might be a retro more than an update, it seems weird they didnāt include a touch strip where there is an effect built around a touch strip.

That would make sense: XL- retro colour scheme, 4gb Ram, probably includes all the new pluginsā¦ but it is a bit disappointing/boring at this stage. The MPC X has felt like itās needed a general update for some time now, it feels like a unit that is 10 years oldā¦ reminds me of how I view the mark 1 Analogs and Octatrack.
Iām infinitely more intrigued by the idea of an MPC Mini.

For those with an mpc live 2 in black, whatās the finish like? Is it a dust magnet? Is it going to end up a sticky mess like my ableton push 2 did?
Probably. But it makes good beats/music.
It cost a fortune to develop these things, no reason for a redesign, the x is a great machine. Why spend hundreds of thousands to million for a touch strip? I think it looks really great and wish I could buy it.
omg if they put a touch strip instead of an actual fader then I will buy it and throw it out the window
I hope they remember they are not native instrumentsā¦ Iām sure they can spare 2 to 4 faders. out of all of those damn knobs, like you say why the redesign , Mpcs have made great and wonderful use of fader Q-links forever and thatās the omission-on my live and one that I hate the most

I believe they changed the finish so it would not gummy up for the live 2 and onward.
I have a retro live 2 so not 100%, but that is what I have gathered.

The MPC X already had near perfect hardware asthetics, particularly the oled Qlinks, and a button for most things. So the new look, more ram, and maybe some other bits is all thatās needed for a refresh. To be an āXLā tho I would love to see some analog filter or actual mpc3000 based converters. That would really set it apart.

Can anybody with a Live 2 confirm that itās not rubber coated and turning into crud?
I have a couple of questions about audio in the mpc. If you have a loop in a clip program or an audio track, is it possible to have clip automation like in an ableton audio clip? Iām talking volume automation to play only certain parts of the loop.
Also, if you load a loop into a pad in a drum program, can you set start and end points that stick to the grid? i.e. isolate the 3rd 1/4 note section. Hope that makes sense.
dunno how Ableton works but can definitely automate loop triggering with velocity and chops in MPC

I kind of want an MPC one, and this new models chat is muddying the waters. Iām sure I saw someone say the One might the only one not to support the new software?
I also kind of want a 1000 or a 2500, and that will give me no such issues 
No, there is a pad mixer but it follows the current sequence, this isnāt the AKAI Force, an audio clip program is just a program in the sequence, it doesnāt have a separate timeline for automation synchronized to audio clips. You want the Force for that.
