Ah, yeah that totally changes things if you go more easy on mixing on the MPC. If I made a new song on the MPC, I’d definitely export earlier and do the mixing chore in the DAW instead.
The problem with this particular export is that everything is already carefully mixed on the MPC, yet, I want to replace a few effects here and there. That is the awkward spot here it seems: either export a stereo mixdown and only do light eq and maybe a multi-band compressor in the DAW, or export a more rough sketch from the MPC and do the mixing work once, in the DAW.
So over on the mpc forums, People are saying the plug ins need constant verification by internet access to keep working? Is this true? Anybody have any experience with this? If this is true, this is a serious flaw… What if you are doing a show without internet access? What if in the future they stop supporting the authorization? They didn’t sell them as a subscription… rediculous.
Installed latest update and multiple plugins using Wi-Fi on MPC Live. Switched Wi-Fi off once done and not had any issues with plugins, or anything else on Live.
Akai continuing to knock it out of the park with free updates and new optional plugins. Only thing that I’d like to see now is a Live or One type model with a tilt screen. Only on the X currently.
You’ve been travelling with your MPC for 7 weeks with the first round of plugins, correct (that would be Fabric XL, OPx-4, etc)? What firmware are you on? Have you bought Mini-D or Flavor Pro?
I noticed something last night that really ruins my workflow. If you have have an MPC receiving external clock, you cant record audio. If you arm an audio track and press play from another sequencer it will send clock and start the MPC but it will disarm the track and not record.
Doing some research I saw forum posts from 2020 complaining about this, so its not a new issue. Kind of blows my mind that this is still a thing. In my case using the MPC as the master is a pain since its not the sequencer I want to be controlling everything in my setup.
I had it once last week. Never have my mpc connected to wifi or Lan cable, except when updating. Activated them again with wifi without a problem. But I hate it if I have to active the plugins every once I a while.
Akai just sent me an email saying that the new paid plugins can now be used as standalone plugins on your PC or Mac. I don’t use my MPC anymore, but buying flavor just for usage in Ableton seems tempting.
From email: " MPC/FORCE plugins now include VST/AU/AAX versions for use in your favorite DAW – FREE!
Purchase any of the MPC Instruments & Effects and you’ll be able to use them on up to three devices – PC, Mac (VST/AU/AAX) and Standalone (MPC/FORCE).
Existing purchasers of the MPC plugins will find the VST/AU/AAX versions available now in their inMusic Profile
Applies to Fabric XL, Studio Strings, Stage Piano, Stage EP, Organ, OPX4, Flavor Pro, Mini D and all bundles. "
For anyone wondering why the new AU/VST versions haven’t shown up in their account downloads yet, it’s possible to go directly to the new AU/VST product page, download the demo of the plugin you own and get the installer there. E.g. Flavor Pro installer page here.
For me, Flavor Pro worked straight away after installing, no need to activate again thankfully. So it looks like the AU/VST version only uses one activation regardless of whether you’re using the AU/VST version or the MPC version (which I already had installed).
Same experience for me too… downloaded the Flavor Pro demo, installed it, and it seemed to be pre-authorised on my MacBook.
This really is a great flavour/colour plugin that I thought was worth having on the MPC hardware, but being able to use it in your DAW makes it quite good value for money now IMO.
At $69, if you view it as $35 for the AU/VST version and $35 for the MPC version, it’s not too bad.
Personally though, I still don’t feel I can justify OP4X and Fabric XL at the current prices.
Tough one, RC20 is really good and covers more territory, especially because of the Reverb module… Flavor Pro feels more like a lofi machine, more akin to DAW Cassette than RC20 to me.
I’d gladly have and use both tbh. I do.
