A must-watch, i love it. Isabelle Adjani is… wow!
I agree with the sentiment of matrix - the new one.
I was a bit bored during one of the big fights ( no idea who that French bloke was ) … it was nice to watch something new but it was quite familiar territory.
And ‘actress trying to act like old person’ was quite dire.
And finally - the end music was a pale attempt at rage against the machine
She’s superb (and a beaut) but my gosh, that movie. Every time I re-watch I forget how theatrical and bizarre it all is!
From the Cold War paranoia to the surreal elements to the monologues, it’s good film.
3 is embarrassing
actually the first 30-40 minutes are quite interresting, but i was waiting for the absolute mindfuck-moment
and yes some scenes are cheesy …
don’t know what to think about
Few recent ones (that we’ve watched):
Werewolves Within. It’s lovely nod to comedy horror, played out really well be a great cast. Plenty of slapstick humour, comedy gore and genre jokes. And it stars Milana Vanytrub. Lord
Power of the Dog. I hadn’t read much about this but a Jane Campion film is always something to investigate. I briefly watched a trailer and it made it look like a very, very different film. Afterwards I was hugely underwhelmed but then looking back I think I just set my expectations pointing towards an entirely different film. Rewatched it and I think it’s actually a work of genius, maybe one of my top films of 2021.
The Hard Stop. Documentary about the murder of Mark Duggan by police in the UK. Really well done, sits in a fairly neutral position, as much as you can and looks at the circumstances surrounding his murder, the subsequent riots and unrest, the inquest, the outragoues paradox of the results of that and the how the events left ripples on the lives of those involved. Recommended.
Shiva Baby. One of the best comedies I’ve seen for some time. Exquisitely and painfully observed and a blistering performance from Rachel Sennott. One of my films of the year, certainly.
Moments Like This Never Last. Astonishing documentary about the life and work of Dash Snow. Utterly inspiring and tragic in equal measures. Highly recommended.
I loved the new Matrix so far. I really don’t understand what your problem is all of you ranters. Lots of self referencing / meta jokes and I like the set design very much. Good cast as well. I wish they hadn’t done 2 and 3 and just made 1 and this one.
I started watching it and fell asleep. Then I went to see the new Spiderman movie tonight with 3 of my kids and fell asleep there too. Don’t listen to my movie recommendations.
the homeless looking French guy was the Merovingian program from the earlier movies. He was like that because Neo ruined his life, when he killed all his puppets and stole the keymaster. LoL. i thought that was a hilarious callback.
I don’t think I’ve seen them all …
the fighting while he was ranting wasn’t very good , I was quite bored ( although I think it’s meant to be a big spectacle )
Spider-Man was better
my regular movie buddy is out sick, i had to watch a CAM version, LoL, can’t wait to see it in a theater, proper…
I enjoyed the critical breakdown meta-ness in film of why Matrix:Resurrection ended up getting made, some of the fight scenes were great, actors used well enough.
Didn’t quite enjoy the sci fi treknobabble, but I was interested enough to want another film, which is something I couldn’t say about the third film.
I wonder how inspired it was by Twin Peaks S03, and Lynch’s (far more abstract) commentary on the nature of creation and how art is shaped by money and audience expectation.
My Christmas Eve movie choice was Almost Human - the mid-70s poliziottescho from Umberto Lenzi. Brutally violent, beautifully shot, amazing Morricone soundtrack, effortlessly cool (if undeniably nasty). Worth a watch if you’ve never seen it, for the way it evokes a different doom-laden time, and for Tomas Millan’s off the edge performance as a low rent criminal with nothing left to lose. One of the best of its genre.
Sick, sick, sick movie
oh my god okay I now get what you were all getting to … “One should not chickens before they hatch the day” after n hour the movie turns to everything else you can imagine, 1980 pirates with weird french tolls commenting
after an hour budget for good script was empty that’s fore sure ;D
Warner Bros be like “hey seen that Black Panther movie? – we need some of that shit here as well” “Budget is not enough … we already had to save on the script!”
I’m mean… they really tried to address a lot of stuff here BABBLE BABBLE BABBLE BABBLE
but here we go with the MATRIX AVENGERS protecting cyber space to your command
i mean the post credit scene was a direct commentary about how everything has been done and nothing is new.
except the catmatrix LoL
I like how she got to the point, gave WB the “blockbuster” they demanded in a post-Transformers/Marvel era, then went right back to ripping on them
