I’m hoping the inevitable sequel has a bigger budget that allows them to expand on the found footage stuff. I’d buy a ticket for that!

The learned experience from these low budget breakouts is that the people involved should never be allowed to make a movie again.

The Invite was very enjoyable. Great script, fun acting. It was almost like Obsession without any horror elements lol. I had a lot of anxiety and amusement watching the characters unravel.
Time and Water was a fantastic documentary. I hope it gets a wider release. The footage of various glaciers was breathtaking. Lots of natural processes I had never seen. The human element was very sweet too, and it presents the visceral impact of climate change on the culture.
I really enjoyed Backrooms and immediately came home and wrote some lyrics inspired by the film.

Backrooms felt really juvenile to me, this is not always a bad thing, but in this case just felt like a really poorly written drama tagged onto a cool aesthetic. I did not care one iota about the emotional lives of the characters involved, and no-one in it felt like anything more than a cutout to service the plot. I really don’t get what other people are seeing in it, besides some unsettling vibes and shots. Maybe that’s all, and that’s cool. But the story is massively lacking, and I felt nothing about what was happening. The mental health angle felt incredibly empty.
Renate Reinsve is an excellent actress, but go watch her in The Worst Person in the World, the film is 100x better, and you can see why she’s gotten so many more roles since.
Edit: always retrospectively feel like I come off like some kind of snooty cunt when I give opinions on films. Sorry if it sounds that way. I do get this is only my stupid opinion.

No set extensions , no colour grading , no digital crowds , no fake sea simulations as they sail the oceans … all those giants must be entirely real

This might be random internet claims you’re seeing for odyssey. They don’t claim they don’t use any CGI, instead they say they use it as minimally as possible.
Of course, Nolan uses some CGI to enhance/support his images and blend practical effects. It’s an important distinction to note that Nolan doesn’t hate CGI as a tool, he just doesn’t like to use it as a crutch, especially when he’s afforded budgets that allow him to bring it all to life on set. It’ll be interesting to see and hear how they brought other aspects of The Odyssey to life, but the Cyclops was certainly one of the biggest questions for a lot of fans.

No need for apologies, imo. Personally, I like to hear opposing viewpoints and criticism, of all sorts of things, including movies.
I can be a pretty harsh critic myself at times. I’ve mellowed somewhat as I get older. I can separate the art films from popcorn films, etc. and take things how they’re intended.
But I still think constructive criticism can help artists make better choices in the future and help audiences to spend time and money more wisely. I’m all for it.

Just watched a classic that I hadn’t seen before at the theatre. Live and die in LA, what a brilliant one– with an awesome soundtrack to boot – Friedkin sure didn’t disappoint with that one.
