Movie recommendations

I love that movie and it’s really great that Matt Dillon’s band is pearl jam. That movie can immediately transport me back to another time and a whole other mindset, but Kyra Sedgwick still gets no pass from me. I do like some other Cameron Crowe movies quite a bit but that may be my favorite of his.

Also on my list of actors who do not get a pass: Chris Pine, Diego Luna, Miles Teller

Singles is some warm and fuzzy nostalgia for me. Diego Luna?! Say it ain’t so!

High Fidelity is up there too, in that same genre of “music and feels”.

In which movie is one of the characters fond of Coen Brothers, except Miller’s Crossing that he thinks is a stain in their filmography?
I think this character is a gangster…

Edit: it’s Preacher’s Irish vampire, the brilliant Cassidy!

I know I don’t have the elevated taste like a lot of tall who post in this thread, but, I just watched Wall-E again today and by golly it’s a delight.

Wall-E is an absolute classic

Singles fans might enjoy All Over Me, a 90s inside movie I haven’t actually seen about Riot grrls in Hell’s Kitchen, or something like that

The soundtrack is sick

Gunner

Terrible. Explosion fx from 1970’s . Terrible action scenes , I’m unsure why it actually got released. Worse than working man.

Rewatched this last night. Maybe my favourite Kaurismäki but I love all his work.

The adverts before the movie are better.
A 404 missing webpage has a more unpredictable story line.
Embarrassing for all involved though I guess they all got paid . I doubt anyone has it on their cv.

Just watched Out of Sight for the first time in years. Damn, this thing still holds up remarkably well.

Looking at Steven Soderbergh’s imdb page. I forget how many absolute gems he has directed. What a list of great and varied movies.

Yes! Looking forward to Black Bag. Saw the trailer the other day. Looks great!

I wanted to like Black Bag a lot more than I did.
The music was the best thing about it, for me…

A little late, but just finished it. I enjoyed it. Utterly wicked sense of humor, and enough twists past the initial premise to keep it interesting. It’s not at the level of Barbarian, in terms of turning the narrative on its head, but it was fun.

That said, the trope of “victimized robot gets revenge against soulless human masters” is up there with zombie movies doing the whole “man is the real monster” thing

It’s a great film! My favorite from Kaurismäki is Calamari Union. In the late nineties I did with a bunch of friends a day long walking excursion in Helsinki inspired by it.

Yes Calamari rules too. Have you been to his bar?

Yes, quite often when I was still a university student (both Corona & Kafe Moskva). Also saw many films in the film theater Andorra the Kaurismäki brothers partly founded. And there are still many bars in Helsinki that were filming locations.
