Finally watched this. What a fucked up and deeeep masterpiece.
This is a very slowly progressing movie. But I liked it. I’ve never seen Jenna Ortega act before and I think she’s either miscast or a bad actress. A lot happens in her life but she has the same look…
This one was a trip.
Started this last night. Incredible!!!
Can someone list all the good movies/films in here minus the horror ones? All such lists seem to get overrun with horror, which I’ve never liked and never will.
Enjoyed these recently.
Easier to frame towards things you know you like over “everything but horror”, especially since what is horror can be infinitely varied.
Just making sure I understand this request. By “in here”, you mean this long thread? You want someone to compile a list for you of the “good” movies in this thread, but exclude the horror films?
How much do you pay per hour?
Right, it’s a lot more targeted to just suggest what sorts of experience you like, horror can contain basically the entirety of human existence in various forms and overlap with drama, scifi, thrillers, etc etc.
im like the last person to post good movies
I might have to rewatch this - at the time I felt a bit disappointed by it (think I prefer Anderson in live action mode) and it felt like my least favourite.
But it’s definitely been far surpassed as least favourite after the recent run on films, which I have pretty much hated
Sometimes films just click more a few years later though, so ready to give it another go
Fun movie!
Anyone know these movies?
Never heard of them, but I’d watch them
Aporia (2023, U.S.)
This film puts a twist on the time-travel genre, blending science fiction with raw emotion and exploring the consequences of altering the past. Judy Greer shines in a rare dramatic lead role as she grapples with grief, guilt, and ethical dilemmas.
Things Will Be Different (2024, U.S.)
A tense sci-fi thriller where a brother and sister hide from the law… in a different time. With suspenseful pacing and clever time-travel mechanics, this film is reminiscent of Looper and Blood Simple, and is perfect for fans of slow-burn, time-loop mysteries.
Vesper (2022, France/Belgium/Lithuania)
Set in a dystopian future, Vesper presents a hauntingly beautiful world devastated by ecological collapse. Despite a small budget, the film delivers breathtaking visuals and explores themes of survival, class division, and hope in a barren world.
Aniara (2018, Sweden)
Inspired by a poem, this sci-fi drama follows passengers on a spaceship that loses its course, spiraling into existential despair. If you enjoy dark, introspective stories that explore human psychology, Aniara is a must-watch, offering a chilling look at isolation and meaning.
The Artifice Girl (2022, U.S.)
This innovative AI thriller presents a morally complex story of an artificial “girl” created to catch predators. With powerful performances and a minimalist setting, The Artifice Girl tackles questions about artificial intelligence, ethics, and consent, reminiscent of Ex Machina and Her.
I’ve seen Aporia, Vesper and Artifice Girl. All worthy of your time for sure. I’m going to check out the others on your list
seen Vesper and Aniara, both good, Aniara especially.
I liked Vesper primarily, but not only, for its fantastic production design at a limited budget. Interesting one, worth watching.
I’ve had Things Will Be Different at the top of my list for a while @LyingDalai thanks for the recommendation. From my memory of the trailer, it’s Australian, I think? Australian film never lets me down.
This may be the 4-5th movie I’ve seen in the theater in the last 20 years.
Really good!
Just finished the substance. My fag packet movie review:
Off the charts batshit.
gladiator 2
its lllooooonnnnnngg… its big, large scale hollywood i guess, lots of people running around, big sets, large landscapes… putting it together is what impressed me most.
i dont think the acting is anything more than typical amatuer dramatics… the main guy should get some nods for a few awards but thats about it… the dialogue is a bit … lots of excessive sllloooo-mooooo
i wont add any more… i hope people enjoy it… i was reminded of jedward …if you see it you’ll know what i mean.
Good Letterboxd list here for horror fans:
