Tempest ist supa punch,
taking it to gigs for that reason!
sounds incredible on big PA!
It has a very good envelope system, afaik you could also use the envelopes to offeset the other ones.
Also the pitch envelope is very accurate. (which is very important for tuned drums.) The osc tunings - also very stable. The raw sound of this thing is just sick. It has way more control over the sound, as any other drum machine today. If one would build a rack with 6x Serum synth, that would be a contender.
Yes, you can delay onsets, hold peaks, and even use an envelope to modulate itself (as well as other envelopes), to create exponential curves, both positive and negative, per stage. Then you can map the amount of that curvature to velocity, to make sounds that respond “acoustically”, based on how hard you hit the pad.
As demonstrated above, the Tempest can hit as hard or as gently as you want it to, from slamming techno to swimming ambience, and just about everything in between.
Cheers!
Depeche Mode on Tempest:
Cheers!
Wow, you can p-lock anything!
@JohntheSavage Awesome sounding covers!
Boss DR-55? Such a beast.
Or maybe the DR-110…
(edit: Now I’m wondering if this is how Shamen came to name their song/album “Boss Drum”…)
Digitone in Bim…¿!?¡!??
someone should give us a taste
I agree. They’re not mine. Just some vids that I’ve kept bookmarked.
Cheers!
Both are pretty cool, still wouldn’t mind to have one, despite having 808 and 606. Both Boss remind Roland machines, with different character and probably a bit softer, less raw sounding.
Here’s a comparison with 606
Great list.
I personally think the Elka Drummer One (truly unique and musical timbres), the Elgam Match 7C (reminds me of the deep, warm, sputtery sounds of the Monotribe drums), and the Vermona ER-9 (no surprise there) have something really special about them.
Cheers!
indeed that is what got me into Elektron gear and wish I could have bought one at the time
It’s good to see so much Tempest love around here lately.
Maybe we’re finally gaining some perspective.
Cheers!
po-12 … or 32
but damn
I’m sure it’s already been said but Machinedrum 100%
With the Machinedrum programmed properly and the compressor tweaked just right it punches quite nicely
The most punchy drum machine is always the one you don’t own and planning to buy next.
This should be pinned. Lol. I got a machinedrum in one arm and no DR2 on the other arm. Now I’m singing the blues
