Audeze MM-500
I use DT1990 and they are very transient responsive - to a degree that is fine, but it also a problem when mixing drums - i often remove transients because they are so piercing from drums, when i mix with my speakers i get a better result.
I would still say they are good headphones, but its good to balance everything out on actual speakers.
Beyerdynamic 1990 headphones have a boosted high-end, so they should only be used for mixing with an EQ correction software, like Realphones. The drivers themselves are excellent and handle transients really well—you just need to make the frequency response curve flatter.
I do, i use sonarworks, which dampens the highend with the profile, but at least for me its still to “pointy”
I already have SoundID Reference, and would like a room simulation plugin to check how my mixes translate. Which one is the best for that?
I don’t want to buy new headphones, so Slate VSX is out of the question, despite hearing a lot of good things about that system.
IIRC there are already a few options for this in Sound ID
AFAIK, our ears are all unique, so there is no “best” headphone for everyone. You need to rigorously test various models, and when you find one that works for you, leave behind the rest
