I’d really love to see more parameters - or a general switch in preferences - to show in musical units (1/4, 1/8, 1/16 etc.) because I really like to do a lot of really tightly sync’d things with synths… given how simple that is… it would be great. including on the delays and everything! Seeing this across the entire Elektron line would save me a lot of time pulling out my hair changing paramters from 71>72 or some other arbitrary 0-127 value trying to figure out if it’s in sync.
It could be the kind of thing that you access by turning left instead of right from the “zero” point… I realise some occasional parameters display this option… but it always seems to be a near-impossible value to find that’s randomly thrown in between decimal point values. A more consistent implementation of this would be incredible.
it’s never arbitrary - there’s always a system and people work it out (or search here for clues)
Yes, some parameters get added clues, some don’t - it could be better in some of the gear for sure
Well then I suppose what I’m saying is that it would be better not to have to search a forum for clues to get an LFO sync’d as you want in the middle of a track/session.
Because I work a lot in studios with other artists rather than just making music on my own, that time spent reminding myself which 0-127 value + multiplier convo = a simple 1/8th note is their money and lost time in an expensive studio.
Search stuff before you go to the studio, screen shot it on your phone for quick reference. I’ve got a bunch of charts and stuff saved to my phone for when I’m not at my home studio. A lot of which I found here on the forum.
Hmm I’m not sure my point is getting through, really. I understand the workaround… I’m saying it’s so simple a change that there shouldn’t need to be a workaround. It’s a simple matter of providing some additional options on the display to save time and potential distraction when you’re working.
We could revert all delays back to operating in Hz and tell everyone to get a BPM > Hz calculator app… or the manufacturers could just make things flexible and add an option to flip between beat divisions and continuously variable parameters…
It’s not about workarounds, it’s about reducing the amount of time making music you spend staring at manuals and charts to give you information that the machine is more than capable of giving you if it were simply programmed to do so.
Depending on the machine, as this request isn’t in a specific category hold func as you turn the encoder will give you tempo syncd options. The digitakt does it on the delay, note length, etc.
Elektron worked and developed their ui, should they really change it for someone when a lot of users are already using the machines just fine? It’s not that hard to open a phone a look at a screen shot there isn’t really anything super human about that. It’s much less work than changing the ui of a device.
I not really sure what you’re getting at. Person had a problem and was given an easy work around. No one was shaming anyone until you popped in and did so. I don’t understand the “change the instrument for me” thinking. Sorry.
Well… I don’t really want to get into a flame war over it… but I do quite a bit of beta testing for various music software companies, and make a living producing music in fairly big studios . I’m not going to descend into name dropping coughthe one with the famous crossingcough and trying to belittle anyone, but I think it’s a fairly simple and relatively logical request to ask that a machine that is designed for making music could be modified to speak in more musical terms.
I’m fairly sure the purpose of this forum is for this exact kind of thing anyway?
Holding FNC typically jumps between MIN > MIDDLE > MAX on many parameters. So unless it was made consistent across the OS it would only serve to confuse people more if that utility changed at random per-parameter.
