More hypno please

Hello

know what are the basics needed for home a more hypnotic track?

Basically, what makes the hypnotic side of track ?

Polyrhytm? Carvernous reverb ? Maybe Indecent Delay? Mixing ?

Psychology. Movement. The brain recognises repetitive patterns and gets bored.

Most of all: only very, very gentle changes. Hypnosis is all about a more or less static and not too fast rhythm.

Imagine a spindle, or a rod, with several spinning wheels on it (of different sizes), each wheel spinning at its own independent speed. There are fixed points on each wheel, one has sixteen, another has 12, one with eight, etc. etc.

Each point contains information (colors, graphics etc.), and seen as a whole, the points (while looping) on each wheel coincide with one another, at different rates, different intervals.

Think of each wheel as a track, part of a series of tracks looping / ‘moving’ at once, to form a whole. Each track has points, or “trigs”, with information programmed into them, coinciding with the points on other tracks (tracks with a different # of steps, or trigs), moving independently of one another. Seen as a whole, the looping patterns are ovelapping one another, each point coinciding (occuring simultaneously) with other points at varying times.

Get yourself into a trance state first, then make the music.
Can be done in many ways, even just sitting and breathing with your eyes closed for a half hour while trying not to pay any attention to the thoughts running through your mind, don’t try to stop them, just try not to pay attention… Deep relaxing breaths… With the intention that your going to stay slow and zoned out…

After that you’ll probably naturally work slower and trancier when making music, let things slowly evolve…
Drones are your friends, things that repeat but aren’t too catchy or distracting… Slow moving subtle effects or processing that makes the sounds sound far out, but not distracting. Try not to have sounds jump out from the rest too much, everything sort of gels into an energy that lets you zone out, but any sudden highly noticeable changes can distract and pull you out of that…

Well, just listened to your example and it has much more beats and stimulus than I was imagining, but I’ll post my post anyway…

These sort of visuals can help too, before and during the music-making: Coil Cycles - Nimja Hypnosis

Answer is Practice

Well, that’s the answer to everything…
But what should one practice?

Thank you for your answers. Some of my other amused ones are a lot more serious and I would put them into effect.

Hope to read others.

Waiting…

Cheers!

I like to think of it as making a rock garden. When you get all the pieces jus right, you get drawn in and can just zone out… if we talking minimalism, that is, which I personally equate with ”hypnotic”… I suppose the term might mean just about anything (as in highly subjective)

It is very hard to make music where nothing happens and that is still not boring and interesting to listen to. The track you posted is very minimalistic and yet not going on your nerves. A 1-bar sequence with a kickdrum, a bass sound and short repeating sequence can go very wrong but in this case you can dive into the sound and enjoy it. A wonderful track! In terms of how to achieve this I usually try endless variations of a pattern until I feel everything sits at the right position. Fequencies of the sounds, rhythm, accents, etc. You must put a lot of work into this before get a satisfying result but I find music like this a lot more pleasent to listen to than 4-on-the-floor party music that could be played on any large open air dance festival.

The first track you posted, there’s a fair amount of modulation going on with the textures in the background.

I think, like the track anyway, a listener will let the beat carry them steadily while they are kept interested with how the more subconscious elements change.

Consider waves: they are steady enough that the general idea is understood pretty quickly but nuances and subtities change constantly to keep us interested long enough.
