Ideally this would be a series of battles, so if you miss one, you can join the next. No sweat.
Sometimes I’m way too busy to submit anything to a Battle, even one I’m really into, but I still get a lot out of thinking about the challenge, then listening to the tracks and reading about how folks built them out, seeing the feedback, etc…
Two things I will say about ALL these battles, which is the main reason I want to see more of them:
It’s a great excuse to finish a track.
I’m terrible at finishing stuff. The Battle deadline means that whatever state it’s in, that’s just how the song is. It’s freeing. Something like half my finished tracks recently have been 'nauts battles or b-sides that I made while working on a 'natus battle.
It’s a great way to improve your song composition
This is also a perennial Big Topic on here—“how do I decide what’s the intro/what’s the chorus/how many verses there should be/does this breakdown go here”… all that.
For some reason, taking part in these battles helps clarify all this. Maybe it’s the deadline or the tight creative parameters, but other than just doing straight-up covers, my battle songs are always much tighter than the stuff I make on my own.
Oh stop selling both of you, I’ve already bought it :)))
Jokes aside though, it’s also about the skill ceiling for me. I’m fairly certain I can crank out a nice little groovy loop, but anything beyond is wonky ass shit territory. But I’m eager to try. This forum is the nicest place on Earth… so where, if not here?
@KingDuppy and I are keeping it pretty wide open with a fun theme… id love to here some dub made out of this… Hes pulling samples now from a crate dig he did…
Im stoked… maybe the next one can be solely dub based once we get this ball a’rollin
So you had to pick one of the most masochistically demanding genre in all of electronic music, technique-wise?
As much as I love DNB, I’ve never been anywhere decent when it comes to making it due to all the comlexities involved. Will be following yall with interest however!
