The DT is actually a great mono synth if you use some single cycle waveforms (or any other sound with a short loop).
You can also turn your DT into a poly synth using the smart midi cable (rk-02 or something?) so you dont actually need a synth, just take your time to really learn the DT inside out. Less is more!
As for the mopho/tetra: I had this combo for a while. I did get the mopho to work perfectly as a controller for the tetra (just make sure to save the same patches on both in the same slots). The hassle of all the extra cables (midi, power and audio) and combining the 2 audio signals made it not worth it imo.
