Moog Mariana Bass Synth (plugin for iOS and Desktop)

intersting indeed, how does their web activation work? with your account name? so this makes it easier to use is on several computers?

PS: i still see the moogerfoogers in my ilok license manager…

The trial can be found here. See the “Download trial” link under the purchase buttons.

And yeah, the activation worked with my username and password from my software.moogmusic.com account (which is distinct from the hardware Moog account, which you may have if you registered your gear with them before).

A nice touch is that it seems to keep you logged in across plugins. So while you have to activate each of them in turn, you only have to sign in once.

Yeah they sent an email maybe a week ago detailing that.

thats nice.

demoing now. sounds quite good indeed. don’t understand why you can’t select the second oscillators waveform tho. thats quite a bummer right?

Had a chance to demo it for about 40 minutes on a lunch break. Sounds good but yeah, it’s a pretty typical mono synth. I didn’t get to dive deep into using it with the moogerfoogers though or with a second instance.

That said it also seems to be using quite a bit of CPU though I might have my buffer rate set to 32 which I normally do for tracking hardware. Maybe I’ll change it to something more reasonable and see what it does but just having the plugin in a project had my CPU at 45% (I have an i9 9900k with 32GB of RAM ).

I keep reading it as Marinara like pizza sauce.

If you want Moog style bass I’d look at “The Legend” by Synapse.

Here’s one for the “Bad Gear” wall of hate quotes- “looks like if Korg Gadget dropped a Moog Gadget”

just loading this plug-in spiked my cpu meter from 1% to 21% on an empty project
M1 Pro on a 2021 Macbook Pro 14", 16gb ram. (edit: buffer also set at 32)

Actually amazed b/c something like the Arturia Mini V (which also has built in effects, etc) only takes the 1% to 3-4%.

I think its worth noting this is a pretty cpu hungry plug-in and I appreciate you bringing it up.
Should definitely be in consideration when people are making a purchase.

Also, Initial impressions of the synth were that the filter was unremarkable.
I’ve spent more time with it and I feel better about the plug in as a whole. I like it, but I still can’t seem to shake that something is off with the filter.

I will say, something positive, that when you remember this is a BASS synth, it does provide some cool options for creating some bowel shaking bass synth patches. Just wish I could pin the filter, I might even leave the filter open and use a different filter tbh.

Entire DAWs can run on MacOS 10… whay can’t Moog VSTs? So annoying.

Moog tends to think of their apps like standalone instruments. Model D and Model 15 are also both extremely CPU hungry.

Moog’s goal, as I’ve come to understand it, is to make these emulations as realistic as possible, on par with their hardware, from the sound to the graphics. Consequently, there’s little regard for how many instances one might otherwise hope to run inside a DAW.

If, on the other hand, you’re a player touring with a software rig, or like to track audio old-school, these Moog recreations are top notch.

Cheers!

If Moog plugins get ported to the MPC/Force, it will be absolutely amazing.

whats wrong with the filter?

I can confirm this sounds wonderful!

I already have a minitaur (hardware). Guess that I don’t need this? talk me out of it. haha

I have given up on using the Moog software synths with my computer (Mac Mini M1 16 GB ram). On the Ipad however, they really shine.

Oh, you couldn’t be more wrong. We are all aware of the recent, tumultuous times our beloved Moog has been through. Adapting the Moog brand and history to modern times, expanding with new lineups and experimentation with more affordable models, continuing software development…

Only to be chased down at warp 9.8 by the pesky Borg to whom resistance is futile. In order for the company to resist YOU must support them financially in any way you can whilst still being responsible to your personal financial duties.

This requires balance, cunning, and a laser focus on how you can acquire this and possibly another hardware piece because, well, you know. Duty.

Steady yourself, aim-small-miss-small, one in the hand and two in the bush, or whatever… just get it and do what homeboy said above - try some other filters and know your effort is appreciated.

Edit - oh and, you’re welcome.

Is this inMusic’s first Moog branded project?

Those FX apps maybe? Basically the same timeframe/project and, not knowing much about these things, they had to of been in development already at the time of company purchase? Probably prioritised to get revenue flowing.

But I work on a farm so finding the power button on things is hard enough for me to figure out.
