I am considering a purchase of a sec-hand MnM. What are most important differences between all these versions (except for the obvious keyboard one)?
There’s Mk1, Mk2 and Mk2+…
Get a MKII+ if you can. The + includes the +Drive which is very nice to have for additional storage.
THe MK II (SFX60+) is the way to go. No doubt.
It has the Plus Drive, which gives you tons and tons of storage space, and yes, you’ll want it. It also features at least two synth machines that the earlier MnM does not have, and those machines are particularly cool because they give you the ability to create chords using only one machine and one track (very useful). The SFX60+ also allows you to load your own single cycle waveforms, which basically means you can sample the tone of anything (old synths, random sounds, etc) and use those as the foundation for a couple of the synth machines in the MnM.
However, if you came across an old MnM for like $500, it would be well worth it. The added features are great, but you can still do a hell of a lot with the old MnM.
I highly recommend going for what you can afford.
If you find a mk1 for cheap, I’d go for that just because it gives you the essentials (sequencer, most synth type, etc). Using custom waveforms with mk2 is pretty fantastic. I had the mk1 until the end of 2012, and ended up having to pay an extra $100 (after selling my mk1 for $600) to upgrade.
While I’d like the +drive, I really dont see it as necessary unless you either don’t wish to backup via computer or are looking to store loads and loads of waveforms.
So with MK1 you cannot use own cycle waveforms but MK2 can?
How many place is in MK2 for those waveforms?
