A remix/cover/interpretation that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time–all done on an Elektron Monomachine SFX-6 (multi-tracked).
Original: http://www.discogs.com/Gescom-Keynell-AE…s/release/1829266
Track1: Main “101/202”-style synth = SID machine.
Track2: Drums = BBOX machine
Track3: Low intro pad = SWAV ENS machine
Track4: Later high and low pads = SWAV ENS machine
Track5: Monomachine’s reverb machine
Track6: Alternate drum parts = BBOX machine
SID machine: SAW wave with lots of the bottom-end taken out (via the internal EQ and high-pass filter). Pretty basic sound, sent to the reverb machine on track 5. Slight delay added later in the track.
Drums: The initial patterns I created didn’t quite relate to the original’s. P-locking hp-filter and high-HPQ really helped create that “round” bassdrum, characteristic of the original track. The later “clappy” part is meant to mimic the cut-up vocals in the track.
SWAV ENS: Such a flexible synth tool! Finding the right intervals to match the original’s intro-drone was difficult, but I created a reasonable approximation. I played the other pads in POLY-mode.
Only used a couple patterns and tweaked them in realtime. Recorded tracks separately, edited, arranged, and mastered.
Perhaps, this one is not as ambitious as my “Autechre - Stud” remix, but I was (purposely and happily) limited by the Monomachine’s set of sounds. Enjoy!
