Is there anyone here with this combo? What’s your work flow? You guys work with or without a DAW?

Absolutly yes the Octatrack and Monomhine make a great combo. Possibly the most versatile of all elektron combos. six synth tracks, eight sample tracks and 14 midi tracks. you can do it all with just those two. I only use the daw for recording and some post preduction.
^ Can you give me some insight into how you utilize all the midi tracks between the OT and Mono? I just got my OT yesterday and am still coming to grips with it, but was unsuccessful in simultaneously sequencing some things from the Mono and others from the OT.
I use th OT to sequence other gear like my sidstion. I compose in the mono and OT separately and midi slave the mono to the OT. If you are trying to sequence the mono from the OT. you have to press the midi button on the OT then select a midi track. Press function+Playback. Use encoder A to select a midi channel ( lets say midi chan 1) then press inter. Now press function+ the down arrow key and select chromatic. this turns the trigger buttons into a music keyboard. you should be able to play it and hear some sound come out of the mono track one. hopefully this helps.
^sorry, I’ve figured that all out…your comment about 14 midi tracks made me think you had a way to use all the midi tracks between both machines to sequence external gear. I’d like to keep the internal sequencers doing their thing and be able to use the midi tracks at will to sequence other things, and use the same keyboard to send notes/controls to/through both machines.
I use this combo too. I like it a lot cause the mono gives the OT what he lakes : the synth ability.
The previous discussion makes me thinks that the mono midi can be used to launch samples with the arp… must try it today, can be fun.
Otherwise, this combo is efficient (apart the fact you can’t really exploit all the midi abilities). The OT can usefully sample the mono.
Other trick, the OT can be used for the multi abilities of the mono. Nice textures.
Other method : the OT cue can be used to be send and mix with the mono thru abilities.
finally it’s a nice couple.
Note : I don’t have DAW
you can use all the midi tracks. send midi out of OT to MnM. send midi cable from your through port on the MnM to midi gear. (this will be the OT midi tracks) the send a midi cable from the midi out of the MnM to additional midi gear. ( this will ne your MnM midi tracks)
I think the problem might be that I’m routing everything through a midi patchbay, so I’m getting a lot of crosstalk.
However, I feel bad about hijacking this thread and I started one about this a few days ago, so maybe we can resume the discussion there?
My most inspiring setup that doesn’t involve a Piano is OT+VIRUS
8 tracks of samples, 8 MIDI tracks to sequence the synth…
I magine OT+MNM would also be super sweet
Good combo indeed, the MnM is very competent and producing drum sounds. SID in particular is ace for this purpose. So you can get a 6 track SID drum kit going, then sample and repeat. Plus you could grab your MnM patterns on the OT and free up the MnM to use as a 6 voice poly.
Tons of possibilities!
