There is that Aleph Bees device. Granted, it’s a lot of programming and menu diving, but for the code writing kind of person, it might be interesting. I believe you can program it to be whatever you want (synth, drum machine, sampler, effect unit), but I really don’t understand how!

i’d probably pay for a sonic charge (makers of permut8, micro tonic, synthplant, bit speak, cyclone) firmware. they even have experience doing hardware dsp stuff. i just think they have a unique take, that’s similar to elektron, but still very different. i’d be curious to see what they could pull off with the monomachine.

me too. though i owned a MKI for a long time. i think a MKIII w/seqeuncer like the OT and more synth types and FX would be a winner. more FM, full featured wavetable, percussion modeler for everything from kicks to hats in one model, phase mod oscillator, poly synth model, plucked synth/wave guide model, delay designer, comb filter etc.

would be a winner for me. one output per track.

Razor in a box (Elektron style) would be sweet. Elektron have yet to dabble in additive synthesis.

but i don’t really care so much if the filters were analog. the MnM filters aren’t bad. so many tonal shaping options and envelope shaping options + p locks makes for an expressive instrument

I’ve been wanting and “predicting” this for some time now - surely someone will come up with a sort of software modular hardware synth where users can program their own modules to share online and such (kind of like they do with the Monome). It’s a gap in the whole synth-nerd business just waiting to be filled.

Would’ve loved it as an alternative on the Mono.

It would be AMAZING if you could swap out synth machines, and if there was an ever growing collection of new machines being made available. Basically taking the VST concept to the Elektrons.

Because roland says: that system-1 will get extra updates, where you can program your system-1 to be “something new”…
as in… every now and then, they give a new bit of firmware to upload to your machine… not just a bunch of patches, but more like a plugin for your machine… They even said something like that about tr-8 … more updates with new “machine-modeling”.

I dont see a big difrence between the two ideas, except terminology…

Idea1: Lets strip our machine, so we got room left, to only upload the machines we need. so we get custom monomachine.

idea2: Lets build a machine, with room to spare… so we can make difrent modules users can mix and match, so they end up with a custom roland machine…

Problem with an update is that the MnM is old technology, and it is likely that there are only a limited number of people at Elektron with the skilz and inclination in 2014 to tackle it. Chips and processor tech have moved on and Elektron is now no doubt using some newer tech and programming language etc.

Have to say that I’d love to see a new digital synth from Elektron with analogue filters!

couldn’t care less about analog filters or analog anything really… would love a MnM MKIII w/more synth types and the current elektron (OT) sequencer

i would like to see the following on a new version of the MnM:

micro timing
samples playback (well,not sure whether this could fit in but…) - even if it was like 5secs of playback i would be happy
p-locks on arp
just to mention a few,other extra features would be a bonus
thing is with the MnM,as already mentioned,it is based on ‘old’ technology so probably if these and other features should be implemented, it’ll probably be on an newer hardware version. i’m not sure how much free space there’s in the current MnM for new features to beimplemented…hopefully there’re still a few free programmable bytes left

Thanks, but got one already!
The digital filters on the Elektrons kind of let them down a bit sometimes… With current processor tech and Elektron’s ana filters, the next-gen Monomachine should be a Polymachine!

Looks like we have to wait for Korg to reissue the Mono was a DIY kit. Could be new features then. I don’t think Elektron have any intentions on working on the MD or MnM platforms now.
