Hey all, I’m trying to figure out if I’m understanding the function or not understanding it at all, but has anyone been able to get the “MONO NOTE PRIO” ( in the setup page) to work as expected? I have not been able to create scenario where this setting changes any behavior whatsoever.
For example:
right now I have 4 3-note chords sequenced on 4 trigs.
I then set the play mode to MONO (or mono legato). Now instead of chord voices playing, I hear one note. So far, so good…
next I change the MONO NOTE PRIO setting from LAST to LOW. No change in pitch, the sequence plays exactly the same.
Then I try changing it from LOW to HIGH. Still no difference whatsoever in the sequence.
I am completely confused by this. When set to HIGH, I would expect the highest pitch in the chord to play on each trig. When set to LOW, I would expect the lowest pitch in the chord.
I’ve tried testing this with a different pattern and tried a completely fresh project but to no avail.
I would try limiting the voice allocation for that track to one voice by locking it from the voice setup menu and then see what happens. I know you changed the play mode to mono or mono legato but there may still be some rule that it follows based on voice allocation to the track and because there are more voices available it’s playing one note but it’s not perceiving this as an either / or situation, essentially it’s just following the lowest common denominator.
I’m only guessing regarding the behavior, but I’d try locking one voice to the track in question and test again to see if the note priority starts to follow the last / low / high rule instead.
If that doesn’t work, then I really don’t know what else you can do off the top of my head.
If I were you, I might also pull up a monophonic factory preset and then test that sound with the mono note priority enabled. If it works as desired, I’d copy the voice page settings to your user preset and see if it makes a difference. Just make sure that you save your project before you start messing around.
I’m not a key player at all, but I think I understand the concept.
You’ll only hear the effect of note priority when you play different overlapping notes like holding down a key and then quickly tapping another key.
Last note priority for example would be you hold down C4 and then tap and release C5 repeatedly, you’ll hear C4, C5, C4 etc. and same if you hold down C4 and tap D4 — C4, D3, C4. You’ll always hear the last one you played.
If you play C4, C5, C4 with low note priority, you’d only hear C4. C5 won’t play, because only the lowest note plays if two keys are pressed down simultaniously.
If you play C4, D3, C4, it would alternate between the notes, because G3 is below C4.
With high note priority, our first example will alternate between notes, but the second example won’t, because C4 is higher than D3.
When several notes are played simultaniously, you’ll only hear the highest note played.
