Model Cycles and Max MSP control

I recently finished Mark Fell’s Structure and Synthesis based on a great recommendation I found here on elektronauts. I had the thought that I could use max msp along with a model cycles to experiment with some of the ideas from the book but so far it seems like it’s asking too much from the cycles.

Just as a test I’ve been running a single slow LFO from max and testing different destinations (most interested in swing parameter although I was hoping to access nudge which seems inaccessible). After a few minutes the controls on the cycles start to lag, then shortly after it crashes with this message: EXCEPTION V03-M0-P44004402

I was hoping to send multiple LFO’s to all 6 tracks but it seems like a single LFO is overloading the USB midi. Anyone have experience with USB midi control from MAX or other software? Mainly I’m wondering if the Syntakt has more ‘robust?’ USB midi or if there is some other hardware that would work better for sending multiple midi LFOs to cycles (I’ve seen blokas midi hub and digitakt mentioned although I’d prefer to just use max).

You’re almost certainly sending far too much data from Max/MSP

Try thinning the data density out (there are many strategies, search c74 forums etc), but firstly look at the data density in a midi monitor - i bet you are saturating the input with excessive resolution/quantities/duplicates of messages beyond that which is useful in real terms

I haven’t had trouble sending lots of midi lfos/envelopes to M:S from ipad/Drambo, don’t know what its native resolution is but I can’t hear any stepping or lack of precision. Can you use a midi monitor in Max and see if anything seems weird?
