Don’t force it brother. Eventually when he gets more sales he could drop the price in the new year to wet the beak a little. I’m sure he will be able to get more units out in the future and undercut the price a little more .
I actually suspect the opposite. I think he’s going to hit a kink in the supply chain and if it’s one of the super hard to obtain, core components, then the machine is probably not going to be available anymore.
He’s just one guy so it’s not like he has the contacts of a major business, or rossum who himself has been in the industry for decades.
But I don’t want to jinx it so just hope for the best. At this point though I’m not going to risk it all just for crunchy drums so I’ll have to sit tight and see what happens.
I was really surprised when I received the email though.
Hes a good dude and I have enjoyed my correspondence with him. I know you will be able to save sounds individually soon, so instead of saving a kit of drum sounds as a song for a starting off point, you will be able to simply load up a sound that you saved. And I believe there will be a way to chain segments, so you can have a little song mode type thing going on. Also more stuff but I don’t want to share everything in case some of it doesn’t make it.
But for me it is cheating, because I can sample any sound into it and it comes out sounding perfect for what I am looking to sound like. Plus the swing is insane. So its been a great investment for me.
If someone is super into Elektron gear, this is like the exact opposite of that. Sound and feel are paramount, simplicity and super fast workflow is king. So that could be a tough transition for some.
Christophe from Kerwax got back to me on the Rev C. It’s paint job and an improved power supply to lower the noise floor. I asked if I can get my drums to sound like the Lou Doillon “Above my Head “ song just by doing line in through the amp
And he said “yes” . Looks like I’m leaning towards the replica rev C. I also think that’s the general Kerwax studios sound because a lot of the other rock bands recording out of there have that drum sound. Yes this is overkill for my SPD SX but you gotta enjoy life.
let me know when u get it I’m coming over! Lol teleports from canada
any idea of recent availability?
better contact him directly, when he had an unexpected slot for me i waited around 8 weeks after payment
Just ordered and it should be ready in July. Damn that was expensive, had to sell most of my euro for it. I guess I really believe in the sound/workflow of this thing.
Fortunately this selling journey has put me back in the swing of sales and now I can get rid of a few more instruments (ST, ND3P, a bunch of little behringers) to fund a Tonverk or MnM or MD — and I can stop wanting my other devices to be those machines.
I’m happy to be in the space where I’m still interested in the MKSREC but distinct voiced/tuned synths I’ve had complicated relationships with (Rytm and Lyra) I am in love with now that I can find the sweet spots and not expect them to be everything. I also have the knowledge to make them sound GREAT when I tune the filters and compressor properly.
I’m curious for the owners- when sampling directly in are there any tips and tricks to keep in mind? Of course sampling in an octave higher helps for addl grit with the classic pitch shifting algo, but what about impedance, how does it handle being overdriven, curious if there’s anything that experimentation might be necessary to find out.
You don’t need to go up an octave, thats super high anyway. But thats only done for saving sample time on old machines. The sample will sound gritty on it own, regardlessYou don’t have to drive it or anything. I don’t think about it, i just sample in and keep going. It’s a very fast machine to use.
Definitely not just about saving space! The classic ‘old school sampler’ trick to get delicious mulchy sound was to play your records at 45rpm so you can down pitch them back to 33rpm - adds a lot of flavours!
I know this, I am just saying you don’t have to do it on the MKSREC. It has 2 pitch algos on it so you can get the effect easily that way. It’s such a grungier sampler going in clean, that I never saw the need to do the old pitch trick. Which was again, mainly about saving space on the SP1200.
Old school technique
Yeah, got it. Beyond ease of workflow, into the old samplers for the beautifully unatural pitch interpolation / clocking methods so I would be checking out how traditional and modern work in tandem.
Beyond hip hop a lot of my fave 80s industrial tracks used the same methods, Reznor used a downpitched woodblock sample (emax?) to good effect in a lot of tracks.
I’m definitely seeking to make any dug up samples more haunted, dying breaths and long-dead songs.
Much more minor degrees with boom-bap, but I’ll be doing experiments to find the extremity that sounds right.
You can do it easily because the mks has 2 pitch algorithms. So you can pitch a sample up after recording if you want and then use the traditional pitch down trick and get the same sound and vibe. It is a nice qol improvement which lends itself to a fast sampling workflow where the goal is to grab sounds into the sampler and go from there.
Got an email from Pawel about reserving an MKSREC from the upcoming production run the day after buying an S2400.

good for you. they are both very fine instruments.

Changelog:
Summary
Highlights
- Stereo and panning. Output channels pair up into stereo, with a pan position per sound and an editor for setting it.
- Step editing. A step can be opened after it has been recorded and its parameters changed. Until now a step could only be erased and entered again.
- Automation. Moves on the filter, filter 2, gain and LFO pages can be recorded live from the sliders, along with drive, pan spread and pitch error, and everything else entered a step at a time.
- An LFO for each sound, on pitch, filter cutoff and gain.
- Polyphonic and gated playback, from the pads and over MIDI, with chords in the step sequencer.
- Sounds save to the card as WAV, and the card can be managed from the machine.
Sequencing
- Step Edit. Hold Tap/Repeat and press a pad to open a step and change what it does: pitch, velocity, duration, panning, delay, cutoff, both filters, the gain envelope and the LFO, across fourteen pages.
- A step can hold several notes as a chord, each with parameters of its own.
- Polyphony in the step sequencer, with note length, delay and pitch set per step, high-quality pitch included.
- Up to six segments play together, each with its own length, for polymeter.
- Slides between notes, with a default slide speed per sound.
- Gated playback.
- Progress and playback indicators for segments and songs.
Sound
- Automation in a pattern. Every slider on the filter, filter 2, gain and LFO pages can be recorded while the sequencer runs, by holding Tap/Repeat; pitch, panning, drive and the rest are entered a step at a time. A recorded move holds for the notes that follow, and moving the same slider by hand takes the parameter over for that sound until you hand it back.
- An LFO for each sound on pitch, filter cutoff and gain, with rate, delay, depth, start phase and sync, and a master depth over the lot.
- Crossfade looping.
- Pitch range extended to ±36 semitones.
Stereo and mixing
- Output channels pair into stereo on 1–2, 3–4, 5–6 and 7–8, with a pan position for each sound and an editor for setting it.
Sampling and sound editing
- Transient detection in Loop / Truncate: 7 and 8 step through the transients in a sample and move the loop points onto each one, for working through a break.
- Sounds save to the card as a WAV with a small settings file beside it, so a sound reloads exactly as it was and still opens in any audio editor.
MIDI
- MIDI CC. CC 1, the mod wheel, sets the LFO master depth, so it reaches pitch, filter cutoff or gain depending on how the LFO is set.
- Pitch bend, up to seven semitones either way.
- Incoming CC moves and pitch bend are recorded into a segment along with everything else.
- Song Position Pointer and Song Select are followed.
- All Notes Off.
Files and the card
- Create, delete and rename files and folders from the machine.
Setup
- Setup menu navigation: the menu can be browsed with the arrow keys, the Special functions included, rather than only reached by typing a number.
Note: Projects saved with current version will not load with older versions.
I published the new firmware update and full user manual.
See Downloads – MKSREC Electronics Limited there is a Changelog and instructions how to update.

Game changing!!!
What happens if you do not take your spot on the waiting list? Is it like Cirklon where you kind of get offered again or have you blown it
